Do which ever you really want to. The EVO IX MR is a beast, AWD, 280+ HP, and already has a **** load of aftermarket support. And, its stylish. I love EVO's, I wouldn't get one though due to the fac t that everyone and their mother has one. In chicago, in every car-related public affair I go to, there has always been around 13+ Evo's. I could imagine myself wanting to park next to all the other Evos then when I go to leave we're all looking for our cars, all pressing the horn button at the same time as we're all the same color and all look the same. lol

But yeah, Evos are nice, do what you feel is best.

If you really want performance, you've got to go with the evo. However, the two are not really in the same league considering there's about a $10,000 price difference. IMO the cobalt looks better, even when it comes to the interior. I wish I had a decision like this to worry about.

Evo is a totally different car than the cobalt. But you'd probably blow a lot more money on mods and repairs with it. Make sure you can afford it, cause it will cost you more than you may expect.

Why are evo's illegal in canada?

I have always thought the EVO MR was a little overpriced really considering you are getting a turbo economy car with AWD. They are rather cheaply made too. If I had to drop 35k on a tuner car I would get an STi and have some money left over for mods. Plus I think they are better built cars. Honestly though for the price I'm not buying either. If the EVO floats your boat though go with that. It's clearly quicker then the Cobalt, it mods well, and all the ricers will bow to you like you are some kind of God of tuning because you bought the most expensive of all the econobox tuners. You'll never get that last one with the Cobalt.

Most importantly though, get whatever you want and enjoy it. Don't look back, and don't regret it.

Yea that was another ? i had. People say get the STI because there better built. But i know the STI has better interior butyou can always fix that up, looks wise id go either way, but its the performance 9 times out of 10 an EVO will take a STI, and the EVO has been proven to be well built. I just dont get why i hear that all the time, the well built part?

he is correct. and not misinformed.

The Evo is NOT legal to register in canada.

They tried with the VI i think....and i believe they are hopeful that the new evo is gonna pass testing.

It was an issue with the FMIC and crash testing that caused it to fail canadian safety standards.

And yeah we got subies.....probably a disproportionate amount, because people who would have bought evos bought those lol

its a tough call, b/c alot of ppl with evo's will laugh at our cars, but with a couple mods our cars are faster, cheaper, and cheaper to insure. i recommend sticking with the cobalt for having no turbo lag and being pretty damn quick, but if you want to not have traction issues and have a car with more potential and dont have to worry about insurance or car payments. which ever one that leaves you with no regrets is the one for you. but deff dont get an evo older than an 05. and dont get bolt-ons without a tune.

I would go with the STI myself, hands down. WIth the new styling of the STIs, they look aggressive and I love them. I though the new STIs had 300HP?

If you look at quality studies and things of that nature you will see that the Subaru is always WAY ahead of Mitsu. Mitsu always has had a poor reputation for quality and I think it shows in the Evo. Have you sat in one? Driven one? If you get the chance to drive an Evo and an STi back to back you will see and feel what I am talking about. The Mitsu dealer near me is also a Subbie dealer so I had the luxary of literally getting out of one and going right to the other. If you can manage to wipe the smile off your face after the first test drive and look at each car with a truely subjective eye there is a clear cut difference in the two's quality. This becomes especially apparent when you see the price difference between the STi and MR are over 3 grand. You really start to wonder what you are paying for in the Mitsu.

I also don't think 9/10 times the Evos performance is better then the STi. I think it's 50/50 really which means it's all about the driver. Every test I have seen shows the two nearly neck and neck in all tests with the Evo usually taking the handling tests by tiny amounts. That means it's really down to the driver.

If you like the Evo better just get it. You don't have to have our approval to like your car. It's your car.

Well, I own an EVO and have a best friend that owns an STi, so heres my take on this comment and my own opinion, after all these are all opinions. You obviously like STis, which, I do as well. But have you ever tried to change a downpipe on one? Or even a turbo swap? Ok, ok how about something simple, like an up pipe? If not, I suggest you try first, then get an EVO and do the entire exhaust. Or, put cams in it. I did, for both the STi and EVO and I know for a fact that the EVO is far easier to mod than the STi, so if you are trying to go fast, get an EVO(if $$$ is your concern). But you dont have to do the work yourself, try taking it to a shop. Youo will die at the price of labor people charge for the STi, its insane. I agree with you on the interior, the EVOs is dull, but the recaros do have a tremendous amout of lower back support, compared to the STi, but you have been in both, so you should know that. Ive spent about $2 grand and am making over 400whp safely. Try that on an STi... In the end both cars are amazing and I love them both, but the EVO is for me. Hope you make a good choice!

Well said on both your parts. =) To Evolve are the 06-07 Impreza's still hard to mod like that?

because 06 and newer ones have mi-vec or whatever they call it, some sort of variable valve timing and i am told the evos benifit greatly from this new valvetrain. my friend with an 05 has told me many times that 03s and 04s are considerably slower stock. he also seems to not emphasize enough how important a tune is for the evos. he says he witnessed an evo lose 30whp after adding a cold air intake. anyway here is a message he sent me

"Yeah the reflashes are the most necessary mod to the cars to be honest. If an EVO has cams, exhaust, yada yada but is untuned, it will be as fast as a stock one tuned. My car dyno'd 250whp stock, then added cams and full exhaust and dyno'd 288whp... then the tuner came and flashed it... 344whp. Since then I added some more mods and got flashed again. I have not been to the track.

Im not suprised you beat an EVO from a roll (especially 03-04s). The 2005s are much quicker and I dont know if you know anything about the 2006s but a couple have hit 11.90s with intake, exhaust & a flash. "
