SS/SC after 2 weeks.
SS/SC after 2 weeks.
I've owned my SS for about two weeks now. I came from an 03 Honda Civic SI. Since I've owned the car I already ordered and installed Stage 2 before I even got my plates. A lot of this is comparing the two cars.
Looks: The cobalt looks great stock. My Honda had a body kit, 18s, and an exhaust. Looks great but combined with Vivid Blue that you could see a mile away the car did nothing but draw attention to itself. I see no reason at all to mod the cobalts appearance. Not to mention the red sport tint is an awesome color. The interior of the cobalt is alot better.
Performance: I love having torque again....would be the bottom line. The Honda really wasn't ever worth modding, that car was a dud in the Honda world and wouldn't hold it up to well anyway. The Cobalt blows it out of the water. No down shifting required, although it is a much more fun experience as it will actually move you somewhere. With Stage 2 it's even better although I wouldn't call the SOP dyno night and day like some would.
The clutch on the Civic was very spongy compared to the balt. I experienced some jerking issues that others have talked about on the first few days but they have pretty much gone away.
Handling: The Cobalt handles awesome but doesn't feel like I'm traveling down a dirt road all the time. It's a lot easier to drive more responsibly(at the same time a lot easier not to
) because the ride is a more enjoyable experience for cruising around. I'm really surprised at how comfortable the suspension is with how well it is rated. I don't have any hop issues with the cobalt, I did with the Civic. I can sure rip apart the tires in the Cobalt if I feel the need though.
Economy: The Honda got 26 mpg no matter how I drove it like clock work on regular. With the cobalt stock I was able to hit 30 mpg city/hwy. Since Stage 2 it has been 22-26...I've seen 29 with some diligence. That was a bit more hit than I would have liked but I'll probably get an intake soon to bring it back up a bit.
Sound system: The pioneer is alright, I had a MOMO system in the Civic and I really never expected a stock system to live up to it. I didn't want after market in the new car though. I don't live in the best area and I was tired of worrying about the car. The Pioneer is great for a stock system. My only beef is rock doesn't sound that great on it...pretty much sounds like the woofer is off when I play rock. Neither the drums or bass guitar feel like they are getting to it. The Aux input is a big plus for my Zune as well.
Comfort: Civic had racing seats....the Cobalt has leather....I do not miss the racing seats one bit. Not to mention the back seats of the balt are the best I've ever sat in.
Community: Cobalt owners so far take it. Less people here seem to think the Cobalt is the greatest thing since sliced bread and respect..."there is always a bigger fish". Glad to be apart of the community here.

Welcome, glad you're enjoying the car. I've had mine for barely three weeks now and I'm in love with it. I completely agree with what you said about the cobalt community. The people here are all really cool and you'll get help with anything you'll ever need. I just got my GMPP exhaust and I still have to put it in and I've gotten a handful of people offering to come all the way to my house to help put it in.
Anyway, welcome man. You're gonna love it here.
