That really was a good deal for that yellow GTO, but the damn thing was an auto and I wouldn't have it.
Guys the LS1 GTO isn't very impressive from a roll. I know a LS2 GTO would walk a stock SS/SC from a roll I should have been more specific.
And anyone who is looking at a 2004 GTO pay the extra and get a 2005-2006.
Also don't be misled that the LS1 GTO will equal LS1 F-Body performance it doesn't come close.
The added 350-400lbs and IRS makes the worlds apart, it takes the LS2 GTO to even match a LS1 F-Body and then its still a drivers race.

Ok my dad owns a 04 GTO thats the 5.7L Ls1 engine that cranks 350 HP and 365 Ft lbs. And it is a fast car. A Cobalt SS SC, yes it is lighter, but the GTO is hands down going kick butt. Its top end is higher, and for an 04 GTO, your going to be able to get it for the same price if not cheaper than a brand new Cobalt SS SC. I have a Cobalt SS 2.4L, and the GTO gets the looks from the girls, and I think it going to beat a Stage 1 Cobalt SS all the way...

I have driven both and to me the 6-speed felt just as slow as the automatic.
I highly doubt the Auto would loose by a car if at all since the IRS limits any real advantage that the 6-speed offers.
And Hotsauce why do you keep laughing, oh wait a minute you have a 2004 GTO................
You must feel just like the people who bought the 385HP Z06's two months before the 405HP ones came out.

Screw the GTO's. Go with a Charger.
Hands down a better car IMO.
Plus, it looks way better in my opinion.
My dad has had both.. and plus.. we have walked numerous GTO's with our Charger.

And yes I have an 04, proud of it, but it is not stock.
Im laughing because I have driven both cars (SS/SC, and GTO) and know theres a big difference in power. Hell, I had an SS/SC on order, then test drove an 04 GTO, loved it, and got it for the same price I was going to pay for my SS/SC. I eventually drove an SS/SC that a local dealer had and was impressed with it, but its not in the same class as my car. Its funny when someone says a "SS/SC will destroy an LS1 GTO from a roll"..now that almost made me cry from laughing so hard. Now I refuse to get into a debate with you because its over the internet, and that would be about as funny as the comments you made. Good luck with your car, enjoy it.
And if i felt like those Corvette owners you speak of, i'd still be saying "I have a z06 Corvette, you have a Cobalt"
When I started this thread I did not mean to start a debate on which car is faster, but that's what it's turned into. There's no doubt that a GTO with an LS2 will destroy any stock cobalt in any race. All I'm saying is that I believe that the '04 LS1 GTO that I drove would have a really hard time pulling on my SS/SC in a race from a 20 mph roll until we got up into 3rd gear. Although I didn't get to test the GTO's power in 3rd gear, I have a feeling it would leave a SS behind at that point. I don't think a race from a stop would be much competition as the GTO can hook up a lot better with rwd. Also, I'm talking about 2 specific cars that I have driven. Maybe the GTO had problems, maybe my SS is faster than the average stock example. I don't know.

Lol havent you seen the road tests etc. Oh and the Famous Commercial... "GTO vs. Charger, GTO for the KO?"
Oh and by the way, A Charger R/T has less HP and TQ than an 04 GTO, and it weighs more. Every stock Charger we have gone against in our 04 GTO, has walked all over the Charger.

Even the SRT-8 can't "smoke" the LS2....only 25 more hp with all that extra weight doesn't make for quite the "smoking" but I'm sure things can always happen.

Guys enough with the auto vs manual talk, even the M6 LS1 GTO is unimpressive.
The LS1 should have died with the F-Body and the LS2 should have been 2004-2006.
1/4 results only make this more obvious as most people have problems keeping up with LT1 F-Bodies in LS1 GTO's.

I know If i had the money i would have gotten the 05 Goat M6 Black on Black. I had everything worked out with the bank and the dealership and everything. I just couldnt bring myself to justify the payments because i had just gotten rid of my 02 T/A WS6 two months earlier because of money. Kids and houses are expensive.
