Steering wheel adjustment?

Just got my car back from the body shop after wrecking it, the steering wheel is slightly turned when the car is going straight I didn't know if there was any adjustment you could make by removing the steering wheel and then putting it back on in a different position. Just wanted to ask before I tried ripping it all apart and maybe taking an air bag to the face or something....

Honestly sounds like an alignment problem. If you got it repaired at a shop, I'd take it back and make them fix it. No sense in taking an airbag to the face without hitting something to cause it. After my ex smoked a curb in my ole Grand AM I had a permenant positive camber causing the same situation. Car rolling straight, steering wheel all cockeyed. Might want to check to be sure they actually fixed everything.

Alignment problem, take it back and tell them to align it or realign it.

Well the body shop didn't have any equipment to do that and I didn't describe it as a problem because I had the car flatbeded out of the ditch and right to them so I didn't drive it. So I didn't discover it until today, I'm going to get new tires though so I'll just have them align it. Glad I didn't move my steering wheel and then have them align it and have it be fucked up again haha.

Thanks

Yea, body shops that don't have the equipment should usually send the car out to be aligned.

But once you get it aligned it'll be gravy

I'd be contacting my insurance company and telling them the vehicle was not fully repaired. You shouldn't have to pay for an alignment if it wasn't fixed ithe first time through. If you put it in a ditch, chances are you damaged some componenants of the suspension, not just knocked it out of alignment. If you go to get the new shoes and a re-align, don't be too surprised if they tell you its more than an alignment will fix. Good luck.

definately an alignment problem... the car dosen't pull but you have to hold the steering wheel crooked for it to go straight... I'm having the same problem with mine... and mine's never been wrecked.

Dealer says there is no problem... but it's definately off... I'll be going to a different dealership to have it looked at soon.

Very common occurance, damn near every alignment I have done the wheel has been slightly off one way or the other. I have started dialing in more positive toe in the front to help the vehical keep itself straight. General rule you want the camber to be slightly negitive (top of tire in)-.3 degrees, the caster .5 of a degree higher on the pass side verses the driver, and some positive toe (front of tire aimed in) .08 degrees. Keep that in mind when you get you alignment spec sheet .

I manage a paint and body shop. we do not do our own alignments, but we do send them out. More than likely the toe is a little bit off on you r alignment. Take it back and have them take care of it. They should not give you any hassles over it.

Yeah its definetly an alignment problem. the steering wheel, intermediate shaft, and the rack are all keyed, they only fit on one way. the only way to make any adjustments is by getting an alignment.
