Question STI or New SS??

So right now I'm in the market for a new car since I just found out that I get to go to college for free, yay ROTC, but anyways, I am looking at cars in the range of 20-25. Right now I'm driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota 3.9 SLT, hahahahaha, so anything would be an improvement. Theres a murdered out '04 STI with only like 30,000 miles on it and just a catback/intake/new bpv that I really like, and there is also the new SS/TC which, if I were to buy a new car, this would be it. Any opinions on which side to lean on. You boys are the experts, most of you atleast. Haha, any and all comments welcome

Just remember, any car that has been modded has probably been beat on. I, personally, wouldn't want to take a chance on purchasing someone elses problem.

SS/TC is my vote.

I agree with that 100%

but you are also comparing a used and new car,

stock for stock it would be a good race, with the sti getting the dig, but I would go with the balt from a roll.

What do those sti's trap anyway, like 102-103?

I would take the pony but if you must have a car I would go with the Cobalt if you plan on keeping it stock and keeping the warranty. If not then the STI is the way to go.

You have to drive a new TC to really appreciate it. It does so many things so well. I think it's an unsurpassed value!

This coming from someone with all the inside info!!

If there is a hooked up STI with 10k miles for 22k. And then if there is a bone stock STI with 25k miles on it for 25k, I would go for the 25k one. More than likely that modded STI has been beat to death on the streets and at the track. That is the only bad thing when it comes to searching for a certain car. I wanted an 03/04 Cobra bad when I bought my 05 GT, but almost all the Cobras I seen were modded and had quite a few miles on them. Then I find my 05 with low miles and still a factory warranty, and you see what I got.

Back on topic, I would get the SS/TC. FWD is not that bad in snow or rain, hell RWD isnt that bad unless you're in deep snow or ice, then hardly anything works.

Its very rare that I come on this site due to the fact that I am out of town a lot. But I just raced an STI last night. I pretty much killed it by 3 or 4 lengths. Not trying to brag about it due to the fact that we were cruising down the road at 40 and raced to 100. I'm sure off the line we would have been closer. I would go with SS/TC. Like Hahn said, you really don't appreciate this little car until you have driven it.

STi...such a blast to drive. I think theres a guy on here though selling his 07 for high 20's willing to negotiate. I don't if you care for that body style but its a helluva deal.

New car vs. used car-->new car ftw.

Other cars you may want to consider: caliber srt-4 (ugly though); mazdaspeed 3; if you wanted to pick up a used ss/sc you can get one with low miles for under 15k no problem.

Yea I have thought about trading my car for a Mazdaspeed 3. THe interior is 1000000 times better than mine and the Cobalts. Plus its got four doors, well so does mine, but not really. Having no car payment is much better though!!! so the Redline stays.

Hah hah, this a little biased forum to come to and ask which car you should buy. Having said that I agree with tr1p1ng, and me. Speed 3 or STi. I'd go with STi over speed 3 as the aftermarket and tuning/injectors is there. But if I was going to buy a turbo FWD car it would be the Speed 3.

I see what you're saying with the warranty thing, but IMO GM or any other car manufacturer besides maybe KIA or Hyundai just don't honor their warranties like they should. If I were to encounter catostrophic failure on any performance car I would count on the manufacturer doing their damndest to get out of the repairs by using the old "abuse" line. I buy cars based on how much I like them, not how I much I count on the warranty because all cars have problems and all manufacturers are scammers, plain and simple. If the Cobalt fits the OP he should get that car, based on it fitting his preference, not based on the false pretense of warranty. I made my rounds with the local chevy stealerships to get warranty work done and they were giant hacks, don't go to GM for a solid warranty.

Yeah but if you want to do anything with it then pretty much it's a non-factor.
