Stock headlight bulbs etc...

OK I have gathered that the stock bulbs for headlights in the cobalt SS are 9007's. The fog's are H11s.

My question is does it matter what wattage I get? I did search and found no answer on the wattage question. On my previous car (2004 SE-R) besides the fact I couldnt hardly find the bulbs for the car in the first place, I was told that I had to do a certain wattage or I would burn out the wires etc.

What are the stock wattage of the Headlight bulbs? IM guessing 55/65(L/H)?

Can you go higher then this or should you stick to the factory wattage?

also bulb wise, I am looking for something with some blue, but not too blue and not completely white. Anyone have any bulb experiences?

Mainly looking to do headlights only for now, If its easy enough and I like it I will do fog's.

P.S. is there a way to have the fog lights turn on when your cobalt headlights come on or do you always have to hit the button?

Well to be simple.

More watts gives you more light for one, so they will be brighter.

It also draws more current. Double the watts and amps goes up.

2 bulbs
55 watts

110 watts @ 12 volts is 9.16 amps.

So up it to 75 wats

150 watts @ 12 volts is 12.5 amps.

What does that mean, well your headlamps run on fuses so maybe it will actually blow your fuse. Plus the wiring to your headlights is rated for X amps so you could be pulling more current through them than they are designed to handle.

A good example was my 1990 Honda Hawk GT, you could put in a brighter bulb but unless you also upgraded the wiring it didn't really give you the extra light and caused fuses to blow regularly. Upgrade the wiring and it was much brighter and you wouldn't blow the fuse.

In closing I would say stick with the factory wattage.

Plus more watts means hotter and then you can melt stuff. I actually melted the hosing on my tail lighter on that motorcycle cause I put in too hot of a bulb. That was a fun 80 dollar mistake

Also I don't care for the HID lights. Especially when they are behind me at night...
