strange gas mileage?

according to the driver information thingy,

-trying- to drive easy in city, going the speed limit, i get around 23-25 mpg
but then, driving constant speed limit on highway, just cruising with very light touch on the gas(no cruise control ) i get an AMAZING 41 mpg. could my thingy be off? the dealership put 17s on the car, but i dont think they flashed the computer to know what tires size, because my mph is slow by 2-3 mph. could that have something to do with it?

also could i take it to the dealer and have them flash my computer for that tire size under warranty, since they put them on?

Why did they change the rims and tires out? I would make them put the 18s back on it.

And yes its probalby messing the MPH thing up becouse it thinks your going farther then you realy are.

For any car that isn't a hybrid, it's tough to get excellent mileage in the city. It's due to the fact that you have to keep accelerating and braking and stopping and going, whereas on the highway you can keep a constant speed most of the time.

I have a SS S/C and we're basically in the same boat in terms of mileage: decent in the city and really good on the highway.

I went on my vacation the first week of September. My mileage went way high once I hit the highways, I think it went as high as 38 MPG or so. I went all over Vegas and Arizona. Once I got back home, my mileage started to decrease, it's down to about 31 MPG or so now. I've only driven it about 50 miles since I've been back. These cars get the best mileage on the higway. I should point out that I used the cruise 99% the time, the 1% was when I was in heavey traffic.

Before the trip, the DI said I was getting about 25 MPG.

My SS/SC told me i was getting 38 MPG on the highway last weekend. Thats a load of BS of course, but thats because of 1)overfilling the gas tank after the automatic stop on the gas nozzle; 2)our DIC MPG meter sucks.

My mpg has increased thought with more miles on teh car.

The DIC mpg meter isnt very accurate. I have figured mine out and compared it to the DIC and they are off by a few miles.

if you dont believe it , just reset one of the trip meters next time you fill up, and let that one go untill the next fill up, than divide the number of miles you went on that tank of gas by the number of gallons u put in the tank.... 300 miles with 10 gallons= 30mpg.. i do that every time i fill up b\c i dont trust that thing

I always check my mileage when I fill up using the trip odometer. However, I have found that the computer on the car is always 1-2mpg too high. So it's not off by much and it is consistently off toward the positive side, so maybe it's just too optomistic. It never says that I get fantastic gas mileage though, I have been driving very slow and smooth for this last tank and according to the computer I am at 31mpg (with some city and mostly highway). It is weird though if you watch the mpg change as you drive that sometimes on the highway for me it goes down before coming up (this is after having driven for a while). Anyways, whatever....if I drive normally I get about 27 combined.
