I'm old school
The design is sound. However, the idea is to provide for a turbo where under-hood space is not available. Thats not the case in the Cobalt. You don't want your plumbing to be any longer then it needs to be. Too much heat and loss.

Searched around on some -body sites, and it works really well. I also found an article on Chevy High Performance
http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...mounted_turbo/
its nice because you reduce operating temps up to 500 F, so you don't need a turbo timer.
I'd rather just have a turbo in my engine bay though. It looks cooler :-)

Even though the plumbing would be longer than tucking the turbo under the hood I think having it run cooler would be great. Also, we already have the supercharger to provide the low end and only really need the turbo on the max rpm end. I think it would be awesome to put a really small pulley on the supercharger, like a 2.6 or something to spool up quick, and put a turbo the size of your head in the back. Also since we have the single exhaust all the plumbing could be run on the passenger side of the vehicle. It would be really expensive but it would also be sweet to have a cobalt that makes 15psi at like 2000rpm and 35psi at 6500 rpm. It's fun to dream, isn't it?

STS systems have proven to be effictive and produce good power with minimal lag consider the location of the turbo. I just think a convertional system would be better.
