Summer mods

Hey guys I am looking for some mods that I can do for cheap since I need to save money for college next September. What i was thinking of doing was giving my car a little sound. what kind of mufflers would you recommend. I like the sound of the magnaflow. what i am wondering is how to install it. I would rather do all these mods myself.

Ive researched a bit and for most of the exhaust that i saw you can just cut off the old one and clamp the new one on. Does that sound right, would that work for our cars.

I dont want to pay much for the mods since I am saving.. I would like a full cat back but the ones that i was looking at are like a grand. and the ones on ebay look like junk.. has anyone bought an exhaust off ebay? are they any good.

So far ive tinted my tails and put 4 alpine type s speakers amped to 75watts RMS Each and 1 alpine type r Amped at 500-600watts RMS. Thats all I have done..

Also ive heard about people taking out there intake resonator, would that do me any good. would it make the car sound better?

Any suggestions that can be done for free or cheap would be great..

Thanks

What kind of Cobalt do you have? I drove by an LS earlier tonight with some exhaust on it that just sounded like garbage. and to be honest, if you're going to be saving for school just wait till you're done all of your schooling before doing anything really. Paying a couple hundred bucks just to change your sound and maybe feel a bit quicker on the butt dyno really isn't worth dipping into school savings. Maybe a muffler delete for like 40$ would make you happy and is certainly cheap.

so what exactly is this muffler delete that you speak of( im thinking its just simply chopping off the muffler LOL but not sure). by the way I dont want to be obnoxiously loud. want to keep it legal since ill be driving it in the city with lots of cops around!

Would I be able to do this muffler delete myself?

Ohh ya and its just the base model Pontiac Pursuit.. Its basically the same as the cobalt base just different badges LOL!

Yep just chopping off the muffler and rewelding a pipe to where it was. Any muffler shop will do it quick and cheaply.

You could get the Tsudo Catbak exhaust. Not sure if the Pursuits are the same exact setup for the Cobalt LS, but heres a link:

Tsudo 2005-07 Chevrolet Cobalt LS / LT / LTZ N1 Catback Exhaust System

I have the same one. Not annoyingly loud either.

Hey, finally someplace i can help lol
Last week I was working with a buddy of my on my 06 cobalt ss/sc and we wanted to swap the muffler for a resonator or a straight through muffler. But at the end of the day, I went home with just a muffler delete and believe me, you dont want that. Not only it annoys everybody on the street (which i dont care btw lol), it sounds soooo annoying in the car. On the highway its simply stupid cause its the same tone all the time. So do like me and swap it for a resonator if you want

Ok so what resonator do you think I should get? How much can I get a resonator for?

So say if I chop off my exhaust pipe can I just clamp the new muffler there. if not, how much do you think they would weld it for?

240bucks seems ok.. but they would kill me for the shipping price since i live in canada LOL!

The bottom line is the price . I dont want to spend to much money on my first car and plus I am going to college soon..

You can get a stainless steel straight through Magnaflow muffler for $50 on sale at some places. I got mine at pep boy's. Then go to muffler man and it should be about $50 for welding. Don't use clamps, as they almost always leak. It's better to have it done right than have to worry about dangerous exhaust fumes building up under your car.

$100=good sound, safe, no tickets

OR you could go for an intake. I personally suggest the K&N typhoon: sounds great+makes a difference in the butt dyno. I got mine used for $150 off of a guy on another forum.

Both of these together sound great, improved power/mpgs, didn't make my car any less safe, and it's not loud enough to attract negative attention unless I'm at WOT, lol

Just some things to consider, but never put $ over safety when it comes to modding. It's always cheaper to do things right in the first place anyway.
