Sunroof Switch Question

Ever since my 2010 cobalt SS has been new, the sunroof switch has been sort of an oddity for me. In my '02 Grand Prix, the sunroof switch was what I call a "two position open, one position close" switch. Much like the drives power window switch, if you depress it half way, the window will go down until you let off the switch. If you depress it fully, the window will go all the way down even if you let off the switch. In my GP the sunroof switch did the same thing. If you depressed it fully, it would tip up all the way, and if you did it again, it would go back all the way (automatic opening). My Cobalt has what appears to be the same switch, but it doesn't work that way. If you depress it half way it works as anticipated, but depressing it fully doesn't do an "automatic open", it just stops when you let off the switch.

Is mine defective, or are they all like that? If they are all like that, why have the two position switch for opening?

That appears to me to be a normal function of the sunroof switch. Here is the information from your owner’s manual about it: Press the sunroof switch rearward to open the sunroof to the vent position. If the sunshade is closed, it must be opened manually in the vent position. Press and hold the switch rearward a second time to open the sunroof. If the sunshade is closed, it will open automatically when the sunroof is opened. To close the sunroof, press the switch forward and hold it until the sunroof is closed. The sunroof will stop if the switch is released.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,
Laura

That is the way it works, the half press will open the vent while holding the full press will open it the whole way...

And yes, the sunroof shakes rattles rolls and whistles. It reminds me of back in the early 90's when people would add aftermarket sunroofs to their cars and they would never work correctly....
