SunRoofs on the SS

I was wondering, there is no way you can get the sunroof installed after words by a dealer ship is there... if you bought your cobalt without one. Would your only option at this point be aftermarket?

I was curious to see if dealerships could install the *official* cobalt sunroof, on a cobalt that came out of the factory without one

Im sure it would be alot more expensive to install it afterwords and it would probably have leaks, squeaks, etc.

dont do it

please dont do this

i worked at a detail shop for a MB VW audi dealership ane we saw an after market sunroof on a trade in.

It was a nightmare.

I could definately tell that a good body shop could do this but what i saw was terrible.
bad seal.
globs of sealant everywhere but where needed

it wasnt even on perfectly straight!

bottom line of you want a moonroof sunroof get it when you buy the car.

Well the MAIN reason I was wondering this is becuase Im very stuborn when it comes to the Cobalt I want. It must be 1. SS/SC 2. Black 3. Have a Sunroof and I can work with the car from there. But im having ALOT of difficulty finding a SS with a sunroof finding them in black and SC isnt the problem but finding one coming with a sunroof is the problem. The reason being, is I dont want to finance this car at all I have 15k in cash and I would buy it all out at once or maybe take out a small bank loan but thats all.

I have the factory sunroof in my cobalt and it is a p.o.s. My aunts cobalt has a aftermarket sunroof installed at the dealership before she bought it and it is 10x better than mine. Nice and quiet, never leaks or sqeaks and has one touch open and close instead of having to hold the button down. Only thing is it is a little smaller than mine and she didnt get a rear view mirror with lights in it like the stock sun roof, but they managed to keep her dome light intact anyway. Shop around and find a good aftermarket sunroof and a competent installer and with a little luck you should be fine.

Not all come with a sun roof. I was looking for 1. performance package, 2. black 3. side curtain air bags (for an insurance break) and nothing else...no sunroof, chrome wheels, satellite radio. And I found it in Philly.

Back in the day the dealership probably would have been glad you had cash, however, nowadays they don't like it at all and probably won't give you any kind of break at all. They make so much money off of the financing its ridiculous. When I bought mine they basically wouldn't let me leave when I told them I was financing through the bank. I said I would finance through them if they could beat the bank's rate, and they did.

It's also kind of funny because I wanted a blue ss/sc with nothing other than the LSD and recaros and ended up getting the sunroof because everything else was loaded with all the extra crap. It seemed that almost every one I looked at had a sunroof and I didn't want one. I have heard some horror stories about the stock sunroofs, so I cross my fingers every time I open or close it. Good thing we at least have a carport at our apartment so there shouldn't be much water sitting on the roof.

Really now? I thought they would love it 21K + instantly? That sounds favorable to me. Regardless I was expecting like 3k off the sticker price at least If I came in with that kind of money. Because the only thing a dealership can hook you on is financing. If I were to come in and decide their deal on their wasnt good enough, nothing is stopping me from going 20 miles down the road and picking up the same car at another dealership.

aftermarket sun-roofs are something I would personally avoid at all costs. I get the pleasure of working with/on them all the time. Most units are actually pretty decent looking, etc. They usually leak like hell, and the installers run the drains all over Gods creation, or down through your floor boards, etc. Or some other half-assed procedure.

However, when you have problems, you're screwed. I've never heard of an aftermarket roof vendor selling parts for a unit when something breaks. You just get to buy an entirely new roof. I've also never seen a unit with an adjustable glass, which is also a PITA. There are too many negatives in my opinion.

If you really want one, get a GM unit, and all the necessary GM parts for it, and then have it installed. However, I imagine this won't be cheap.

I'm not saying that they won't give you any money off for paying cash, but in my experience you won't get a huge discount. Definitely not 3K off or anything (that would be like a 15% discount). I was just comparing that to the past when they would give things like a 10% discount if it was paid in cash on the spot. However, you should be able to get it for less than sticker. When I bought mine I got the GMS discount because I had a family friend who worked at GM and when it didn't go through they gave me that money off anyways, so there is room for them to come down. All I was getting at was the fact that the pricing is so competitive that they don't make much money off of selling this kind of economy car, it's the financing they make money off of. I am sure they will be happy to sell you a car for 18K now, but would rather sell you one that costs you 22K over a couple years.

No way. The only way you're going to pull a new one, or semi-new one for that kind of cash or lower is dealer auction. Hell, if you want to pay 18k for one, I'll sell you mine....

Well, do what i did: build what you want off GM Canada/USA, print it, go to the dealer and give the salesman the sheet. Tell him this is what you want. You probley don't care if its at another dealer or ordered, but i wanted mine special ordered anyway. If your dealer is worth anything, they can do it like cake!

That would be nice but I don't think so. I just used the 18K for comparison purposes. I'm having a hard to remembering but I think mine was around 19K bone stock before adding the sunroof and LSD/recaros. I've actually tried to keep those bad memories repressed
