Synchro Grind?

Hello all,

my 2005 LSJ has started to grind going into 5th gear.

Here's a vid:

5 gear synchro grind - YouTube

Here's a couple questions:

1. Is it something I need to address ASAP or will it more than likely remain drivable for some time?

2. Is there anything that can be done other than swapping in a new tranny that may solve the issue?

Thanks in advance,

Dwight

It is probably because all the trash in the floor. In all honesty lets start with the basics. Mileage, has the clutch been replaced? Has the shifter cables been adjusted, Is it only in 5th gear? Have you checked the fluid in the clutch cylinder under the hood.

I got rid of all the trash and the synchro still caused an issue! haha

1. 80000 miles
2. clutch never replaced.
3. shifter cables never adjusted.
4. only 5th gear.
5. Have not checked the fluid in the clutch cylinder under the hood.

You guys know these cars inside and out and I appreciate you going out of your way to help me out. Where would be a good place to start??

Thanks in advance

I would start with the fluid, then search how to adjust the cables. I am to lazy to search it right now, as I am in a house of cards marathon. There was a recent thread in the drivetrain forum that some links on adjust them is there.

I changed the trans fluid a couple weeks ago at 60,000 in my 08 SS and two things I loved: magnetic drain plug and the old fluid, legit, smelled like cherries...I was flabbergasted lol. Oh, and totally revived shift feel.

What clutch cylinder would you be referring to?

I am talking about the Clutch tank that you put brake fluid into.
