Thankful for my SS

There are reoccurring treads where people bash the things about their cars that they hate. I just wanted to make 1 that wasn't. I'm thankful for my awesome little economy car that doesn't know its not supposed to be able to perform with cars costing twice as much. Its great on gas, handles extremely well, accelerates fantastic, has a decent stereo, didn't cost $40,000, and after work when i'm tired its always ready to put a smile on my face. I even jump in it for a drive, just because i like driving it. It doesn't buck or chatter when accelerating, it doesn't rattle, it shifts well, it drives well, and i couldn't be happier for what it is- a fast good handling economy car.
The dash is plastic, but it looks ok ( its an economy car), some say the paint isnt great, ( its an economy car) but i have to say my garaged car still looks good. You get some road noise from the rear due to the design, and lack of sound deadening ( it gets 35mpg highway ) but sound deadening adds weight, and i prefer going faster, than quieter ( turn radio up).
Remember that these economy cars with turbo's will usually make noise with age, most cars do, as steel wears with time. Those people who want to complain about a car that im glad G.M. made need to sell theirs ( there are people who would like to own them) go buy a 2008 ford focus, ( another economy car) and then see how much smile per mile they will have. Its not a vette, mustang, evo, or subi, but it doesn't pretend to be. Its different, and i for one am glad, because i don't have another one in my county, unlike Mustangs.

Well said! As my first car, I couldn't have really asked for anything more considering what I paid! I've had it for nearly 3 years now and it only ever goes wrong because of the mods I do to it, it never breaks on it's own account. I plan to hold on to it for a long time even as I buy new cars. All the imperfections make it a love hate relationship sometimes, but the car always makes me smile.

i drove a vehicle 16 years before having even power locks and windows, and actually had a nissan truck that came from the factory without power steering. Cobalts aren't that bad. Thanks for your input, nice to see others that like their cars and appreciate them for what they are.

Lol, my '93 Tercel has manual steering, always throws people off. A lot of the base model ones came like that.

My '84 truck was 3 speed manual column shift when I got it, what a horrible ******* design that was. Big truck with a mechanical clutch and no gearing. No thanks. Converted to auto when I swapped engines, much better now

New cars are amazing considering what we had 10 years ago. The OP talks about his car the same as I would about my Z, it's no special car, it has it's faults, but dammit man it is the most fun car I've ever driven, just begs you to push it right to the edge and rewards you with great feedback and lots of awesome noises.

I have had my fair share of vehicles ever since I turned to 16. This makes number 7 actually in the last 10 years, and by far my little economy car has pleased me more than any previous car I have ever driven. Acceleration is great, mpg is good for the power, and the road noise imho isn't so bad when compared to previous GM sports cars I have owned and driven. Yea alot of people are quick to discredit the whole platform based a on a few minor problems but compared to some of the crap I have driven, this thing is a Mercedes Benz. It puts a smile on my face everytime I do some free spirited driving. So all I can do is praise my poor little old economy car. Now if only I could afford to start doing some performance modifications then I would be even happier.

I wouldn't trade this car for an Evo, Lesbaru, or Mustang.

6 airbags, bluetooth, sub, brembos, vette designed seats, sunroof, quaife limited slip, turbo/supercharged, suspension tuned by vette engineers, all in an economy car! Im guessing that GM didn't make much money off these cars.

3 on the tree- i had a buddy that had a 71 v-8 duster, and the car was pretty fast, but it sucked trying to shift it in a race, with a 3 speed on the column. After he got rid of that he had a 70 torino 302 with 3 on the tree, don't know what the car company's had in mind with the shifting on the column. I also had a buddy that had a 64 383 dodge polara that had the push button auto on the dash, now that was cool.

Yeah I love my car, nothing is perfect but Ive bought this platform three times now, if that doesnt show my love idk what does. Ive had an 08 G5 2.2, 05 cobalt base 2.2 and now my 2010 summit white ss/tc. Loved them all for what they were and plan to love the TC for a long time. All that rattles in mine so far is the damn spare because its not screwed in right. But that just means time to begin weight reduction.

The only way I will get rid of mine, is if I step up to a TC.

no equal in Segment for price vs build/development quality.
[i love the '14 focus with the $500.00 air cleaner replacement element; or try that
fiesta that costs $20 K large-- what a buzz kill ]

Never knew/heard about the 2005 SS/SC .
-i was actually looking at the aveo which sucked no 4 w discs & no ss. then i spotted 3 sssc's in the back lot when i was getting a drink at the water fountain.
i asked what are these? purchased the last one since the other 2 were spoken for after 60 minute test drive in 7-'05. Totally unexpected. nice vehicle, superb dynamics.
? So why at that time did gm NOT PROMO the fact (in 2005 when i was shopping vehicles) that the ss s/c was developed at nurenburg?? Cricketts.
I guess they thot our demo did not know about F1..

in 2006 purch (another) SS 2.4 n/a auto. also nice, quiet, tight.

in 09 traded ss s/c (w/7k mi) for the SS t/c- wow the t/c developed into a grown-up cobalt.

after 5,000 miles -michelin pilot ss up grade. the T/C was so competent, no rattles and very tight/planted.
Finally I purchased one of the last in the country new '10 sstc since there were no more.
( & no LNF ss cruze either)
enough said.

I'm on bandwagon too,I was car shopping for 2 cars(girlfriend/me) for about 2 months could have had Brand new car for few grand more but I knew they wouldn't be fun too drive,I would be average joe(oh no).
I'm very picky about my cars really didn't know what to buy for myself was looking for gas saver, for what I got its perfect, everything you mention is true.
Let's not forget everyone its cheaper to mod, well for most anyway if your not going all out.
I've been working with a 06 Hemi for about 4 years EVERYTHING is expensive, more then double the price for mods even 3x more.
Good thread. Oh sorry I'm in a hhr all the same though, other forum got major issues I'm also thank full cobalt forum.

I like my drive so much more with my little SS/SC compared to my old Ranger. She squeaks, rattles, and moans but it's pretty damned fun and I get decent gas mileage to boot.
