I have not heard of anyone on the board making mention of this, you know the one that GM offers you 5000.00 back on top of your insurance settlement if your car is not recovered, I have it, Is this system provided by Gm any good?I asked a couple of other guys with g5 gts' and they dont' have it.

 

It must be if you have OnStar
and usually cars are recovered, although, if they are stripped and ruined, what good is a fucked up chassis gonna do?

 

It's the Datadot theft deterrent right? I have this on mine, has nothing to do with Onstar.

Basically, they etch a lot of parts on the car so they can be tracked if stolen.

 

Weird, didn't know anything about it. I just have the OnStar theft tracking.

 

I don't believe there is any sort of electronics installed on the car for this type of insurance. I have it, and I definitely don't have On-Star. I believe it's as 06G5GT said, a lot of your parts are etched to help trace it if someone tries to part it out or something. Regardless, I hope I never have to put it to the test.

 

thanks for clarifying that I too do not have onstar,but have this system, I got a hold of the dealer right now to explain this to me and he said they are on some of the pursuit gts' but are probaly comming out next year for the U.S. release of the car, just another example of pontiac giving you a few more gadgets I guss.

 

The onstar works off a satellite system rather than most tracking systems that work off cell towers. Rather than pinpointing an 'area' where the car can be between cell phone towers, onstar can actually pinpoint the EXACT location of your car.

 

Well, it's not really exclusive to Pontiac, as I have the same thing and drive a Cobalt.

 

The windows on my car are laser etched if the car is not recovered in 30 day i get a 2500 dollar check.
one time payment at purchase was all i needed to do to get that no monthly payments

 

Its probably the security etch where they etch a code into your windows on your vehicle. Just so everyone is aware most insurance companys give you a discount on your rate if your vehicle has this I know mine did. I made the dealer throw it in when I bought my car.
