Towing with 2.0

Anyone experienced towing, say, three quads, with a 2.0? I want to know if I could do it instead of having to sell my car to buy a truck.

uhhhhhhhhhh i don't think 3.. maybe 1.. i had a 2002 cavalier ls sport that it only said up to 1000lbs towing capacity and i towed my dirtbike on a trailer to all my races and it did fine.. i had to buy crossdrilled rotors so it would keep the brakes cooler.. i don't think they recomend towing with the ss though

I dont have a 2.0 but i wouldn't tow with one. If you really NEED to tow, then go for a used silverado say 95-99. It'll probly be your best bet and you get the best of both worlds

Please God don't tow things with your cobalt SS.

It's not a truck.

Next people will be asking about lift kits and 4 wheel drive and air locking diffs.

Yea, I was thinking that two full sized quads probably weigh about 300-350lbs each? And one small, 50cc quad. That only weighs less than 100lbs. So I figured those plus trailer would put me at 1000-12000 range.

Manual says 1000 LBS. But weight of passengers and anything in the trunk etc must be subtracted from that.

forced induction engines are not recommended for towing... anyone remember the Syclone? A truck that couldn't haul anything?

The manual for the 06 SS/SC says 1000 lbs.A hitch goes for around 120 bucks.Just be GENTLE with it.Do the math, three 200lb passengers, you driving and a loaded trunk would come to around a thousand lbs.So you, alone or with 1 passenger towing only ONE quad is no problem. The real issue is not the weight, its the drag.A quad on a trailer doesn't exactly make for good aerodynamics. So it would be about the same on level ground with the quad as if you were always going up hill without.

towing anything with this car is going to be bad hell just a trailer will hurt the car.... but if you toe an excessive amount, it will burn up the car.... just be careful... even the vid where the guy is pulling a quad.. hes killing the car

The SS/SC is not reccommended for towing, due to the high performance transmission. The regular cobalts are ok for 1000 lbs, and i remember seeing somewhere that the 2.4 SS could tow 1500 with the automatic.

i guess turbo diesels and big rigs shouldnt tow anything then huh?

also this tranny was designed for towing in europe for the saab 9-3...its designed for towing behind a 2.0L turbo motor. Its listed in the tranny spec sheets and in the sport compact car article.

You;ll be fine...and u can fine hitche for under 100 online...i posted links either here or on the rl forums...just do a ssearch for my name and hitch

If you're really concerned about your car, I'd call different places that install tow hitches etc or even different dealers to find out if the SS/SC is ok for light towing. I'd much rather get a pro opinion from somebody that deals with the car or towing for a living.

gas engines, dickhole...
diesels are a whole other ball of ****.

everyone has the luxury of being a sarcastic **** on the internet, i suppose that's what makes it so much fun. i just know that with all the turbo cars I've had, they recommended that towing was not a good idea.
in the manual for the cobalt, it says nothing about towing with the ss. so, **** it, tow away.
