In all seriousness, remember that the factory shift knob is pressed on, not threaded. Putting together any kind of shift knob back onto the factory shifter can be a bitch.
do i just yank the knob off then? lol.
s'pose i could swap the handle if i get a short shifter. not sure how the plastic nonsense from the factory would hold up to a giant shift knob.

The factory shifter knob is PRESSED on.
Read that to mean you'll probably **** it up removing it, just like the rest of is do.
You pop off the little cover with the shift pattern, then remove the screw underneath it.
Then you use a hammer, a crane, three donkeys, and a monkey to get the god damned knob pulled off.
Then you're left with a lightly splined unthreaded shaft with nothing that will go on it and nothing left to put on it anyway.
That's when you open the TWM box.

do i need to remove the stock knob to get to the shift boot too? looks like this might be on hold for a little bit.

Yes, you do. You can pop out the shift boot from the bottom, invert it and cut the wire tie, but it still won't expand enough to slide up and over the the knob without tearing. I'm guessing the new one won't pull down over the knob. I don't know that for sure mind you, but I think it likely won't fit over the knob.

Seriously for me removing that knob was a chore. It's ON there. And once it was off there was no going back on. I Pretty much destroyed that shift knob removing it.
i've seen it a couple times.
also drifters use some giant japanese nonsense as well.
I assume it won't add enough stress to break anything...unless of course I am trying to ram it into gears and what not like a retard.

it will make the throw to each gear longer, i think
like it would be good for road course driving(road racing), both hands on the wheel downshifting will be in more of reach and back to the wheel quicker
thats why drifters e brake handle is way up by them, for control

OP: You have the best color and door combination that the Cobalts came in.... Please don't ruin it.
that the TWMPerformance "Save the Manuals" thing? I bought 3 of those wristbands...should be here anyday now, stoked.
IM sure you could make it work. I had a Bud Light tap as an Air cleaner Nut on my nova for a while. someone offered me $50 for it at a car show so i sold it. i think i bough tit for $10.
Not to bring this back from the dead but I just wanted to chime in and say a good friend of mine has a shock top tap handle on his shifter and he ******* loves it lol. Plus the retard superglued it on so he can't really swap it out or anything. I've looked into getting a Red Dawg Tap Handle cause my theme is black and red and it would much plus it's so white trash it's awesome. Lol.
Oh and OP if you installed it and all, post pics. Let's see how it looks.

Never got around to going through with it . Life got in the way, hell I still have my catless downpipe sitting in my garage ready to be put in for the last 4 months I think... Now it's 108 degrees out and 100+ the rest of the week.
