valve cover question

valve cover question

i was looking into powdercoating my valve cover and calipers, if i remove my valve cover will i messup my timming? or will i be able to unbolt, paint, and rebolt? thank you

its just a cover. obviously you dont want to drive with it off, and if its off for a long time you might want to cover the area (or at least close the hood) so leaves and debris dont fall into the head, but it wont affect anything by taking it off. I've taken mine off a couple times.

thanks, quick question, if i take out the cams, what is that tool that you use to keep the timing??

why would you want to take the cams out?? and its almost impossible to do without having to set the timing

swap them out with 2.4 cams, but there is a tool to keep the timing

I personally wouldn't paint it. It will flake off after a while and it will look like crap. One way or another, paint after a while is going to look like crap. A year after powder coating mine, it still looks like the day I installed it.

As far as installation, it is very simple and only would take about a 1/2 hour to do it.

I painted my throttle body last year. I primed it and sprayed a couple of coats on it and was very picky about the prep, drying time, etc. It flaked off like a mother. I just got a new throttle body and powder coated it and the problem is finished.

the part to do it is a GM specialty tool (AKA a J-tool), but 2.4 cams aren't really an improvement worth doing this with. You should really get a custom grind...of course i think you have a LAP (i cant see your sig while typing responses )so no one makes cams for you yet
