Very Interesting question
Very Interesting question
Hey everyone,
I am in an interesting position here. I am 17, own a 06 ss/sc and am going to college next year. My parents want me to pay for some of the tuition money, and i have agreed, but I have to sell my cobalt to get the money. Half of what I get will be used for a used car. So heres the question. I am looking to get a 1986 El Camino, goodwrench v8 350ci engine with udner 20k miles, new tranny, new rims and tires, dvd system, exhaust, and new sound system for around 9k.
So basically here are the questions-
1. How much will i get for my balt?(06, 11000 miles, BRAND new condition)
2. How much does maintenance cost for a el camino, or muscle car for that matter?
3. How often do I take it in for maintenance?
4. Would you say it would be a good purchase?
Thanks, its greatly appreciated

what options did you get with the car. thatll help. us figure it out. and no matter how well you take car off a car they never classify it as like brand new. which is wrong because sometimes it in the same condition as brand.
well kbb with every flawless as you stated said 16000 and some change for my area code i doubt that your will much different if at all. but youll prolly get like 14500 or so cuz dealers are just like that.
Get your car appraised to find out what it's really worth. Sites like KBB are nice for estimates, but they can't write checks. Carmax will appraise your car for free (And offer to buy it). My limited experiences with having vehicles appraised is Carmax has always offered the most for them. Not sure if you have a Carmax around, but check it out if you do.
Any old car/muscle car is likely going to break more often than a newer car, simply because it's old. Luckily, the older cars are generally less complex and a lot of repairs can be done yourself if you have some basic tools and know-how.
I'm not going to offer advice on maintenance because each car is different and it depends on how you drive it. But, keep in mind that a dealership is not likely to keep parts in stock for a car that old, so anything you take it in there for to get done, except for the most routine items like oil filters and spark plugs, will likely have to be special ordered. I'd probably just take it to an independent.
I'd say it's not the best idea, especially if money is going to be tight. Stuff breaking, along with high gas prices combined with poor mpg will eat up your budget in a hurry.
JMHO.

dont sell to dealer!!! you will get **** raped...go sell private, you can get up to 17-18 private...I know mine is an 06 w. stg2, intake, tint, and some other visual upgrades, its in good condition w/ a sunroof and i can get almost 19 (crazy i know) but i looked into it on kbb and my mom works w/ gmac for the dealers in our area and i can get that sort of deal. however if you go to a dealer, you will get pwnd.
So basically here are the questions-
1. How much will i get for my balt?(06, 11000 miles, BRAND new condition)
less than you think you will. honestly, i would expect somewhere between 15-18k. if you trade it in to a dealer or something i would not expect more than 15 or 16. you'll probably take a nice hit, depending on how much you owe. how much do you owe?
2. How much does maintenance cost for a el camino, or muscle car for that matter?
3. How often do I take it in for maintenance?
it's a 20 year old car. maintenance will probably suck. granted it has low miles, but if you're asking this question then i would think you won't be doing the maintenance yourself.
4. Would you say it would be a good purchase?
Hell no. buying a 20+ year old modded car for your daily driver is about as dumb as it gets.
