Wash Underneath

A quick question for you guys. Do any of you clean underneath the car on a regular basis? I ask because I called my cousin up and he told me he just got done cleaning his engine bay and underneath of his car.

I can see cleaning the engine bay (which I don't anyway) but cleaning underneath seems very odd to me, very hard and time consuming I would thing too. I will admit though, I did an oil change today and it is very shity underneath, my exhaust is completely rusted already.

I do. Salt will eat your car away if not.

What is the easiest way to do that? Just raise it as high as you can with stands and scrub?

the undercarage wash is the most importiant in the cold states where salt or Mag-chlodie is used on the roads. It is also good if you get it all muddy cause that mud is really heavy and can weigh down your car.

You live in Pittsburgh and don't wash under the car?!?! Start getting in the habit now. I do it at LEAST once a week in the winter. In the summer it's not a huge deal, but I even continue to do it into the middle of May after heavy rains because sometimes there's salt residue left on the roads that you can pick up when it's wet.

Best way to do it is to go to a *TOUCHLESS* automatic car wash where you drive through, usually they have an underbody wash.

Can you recommend me a touchless auto wash that is local? Anything in the robinson, rt60 area. Hell I would even drive not to far down 79 if its needed. Since we are having this nice break in the weather and I am off for spring break, I might as well clean the SS inside and out.

I just moved to Florida instead, no salt, wash under it maybe twice a year.

Although I have to clean the sand out of my engine bay about once a month now...

When u wash ur car though dont spray directly at the paint surface, go at an angle, also never spray at ur rad directly either!! When spraying ur undercarriage, get the back bumper under and inside, its a good hiding spot for crap etc!!!

Once per week at the touchless car wash (undercarriage spray) throughout the winter and once every 2 weeks in the summer (every second wash as I wash once per week)with a good garden hose angled attachment that has a fan adjustment. Should only take you ten minutes to do. My car is undercoated once per year as well.

I've got no clue, bro, totally wrong side of town for me. Just look for em, they're all over the place. I'd try just looking along 60 and see what you find, they should say on the "menu" so to speak if it'll do undercarriage.

I'm giving mine the full makeover this week too. Beautiful outside!

What is an undercoat. Some type of wax that is on the bottom, or something even stroner than wax? Also, where could I get something like that done and for how much about?

a friend of mine has a shop with a pit. So every week or so, I don the raincoat and go under the car with a sponge, bucket and hose... Yup, I wash the underneath of the car as well. Yeah, i know... how **** retentive is that. But, I refuse to lose another car to rust. As for the engine bay, i usually detail mine once a week during the summer. Usually a couple of times a winter... it gets too damn cold here to do a right proper detailing during the winter.

Any SS's have problems with their spolier and a touchless car wash? I had a buddy go threw a touchless and had his spoiler scratched by a moving dryer

Thanks for catching that. Let me correct my original statement.

I get a touch up annually. Some areas of the undercarriage gets blasted with the road salt and grit they put down. Wears away at the undercoating. Only cost 30 bucks.

Thats why my 2000 Ranger XLT 4X4 looks so good and will last another 5 years of playing.
