Weld-On Muffler?
Hey guys.
I was seeing if anyone did a basic weld-on muffler on their Cobalt yet. Doesn't matter what model. As in, cut the old muffler off, weld on a new muffler (a super-turbo style one), then used their stock tip (if it's an SS). I did this on my Monte, Deville, and Accord and it worked great. They all sounded awesome and looked better too. The Monte used 2 Dynomax Super-Turbo's, the Deville used 1 Dynomax Super-Turbo, and the Accord was a Ractive Fireball (don't hate, it actually sounded good).
I'm just asking because I don't have like 500 friggin' bucks for a GMPD cat-back. I basically want to free up the exhaust a tad, and if it was a tad louder, that'd be ok too. lol. I wouldn't put a fart can on it, but I think a Dynomax would do well on that car. Plus, if you use the stock tip, it'd look stock too...
Anyone???

And these all sound pretty good then? I actually love my Dyno's on the Monte. It's the best GM 3.8 I'm ever heard. Most sound crappy. I'm just afraid it will sound really bad...
Well mine is not quite the same, but close. I went to a local muffler shop, got my balt on a hoist and took a look. Turns out the piping goes 2.5, 2.25, 2.5, etc... I had him take out all the 2.25 and smaller (including the 2.25 resonator) and splice in 2.5. Then he welded me up an 18" Magnaflow. Instant catback for $170! Use the stock tip too. Sounded a little raspy, so I had him put in a 18" 2.5 resonator for another $60. Sounds great and I notice more power.
i cut my exhaust off, welded in a magnaflow stainless steel with a 4 inch tip.sounded nice and not honda-esq' lol . it sounded good , when i put it on the 07 sc it should sound a whole lot better though lol
The guy that did my exhaust said the collector was actually pretty good. The resonator is definately restricting. The piping goes down to 2.25 for it. Also the piping is really small around the axle. If you get those things squared away, then a good muffler will "free up" some performance over the stock one.

I never said I'd run 9's changing out the muffler. I just want a little more out of the car in the sound department, but since I'm auto, I can't have it be loud and obnoxious, because then it's just gay. lol.
