Title says it all. I'd like to give my car a long overdue engine/bay cleaning.

Soapy water, then rinse with spot free water (just avoid the parts that get ruined by water). Then just dry everything off. Then not sure if this is good for them but, I armor-all anything thats rubber or plastic. Like the coolant hoses or hood seals, etc.

I did this yesterday actually. I kept the water away from the fuse box and air filter, other than that, hit it with the garden hose. I dried off the standing water puddles and left the hood up with the engine bay facing the sun to make sure the filter was dry.

I'm with you on this as I use CRC NON-Flammable brake cleaner, it dries quickly, doesn't harm the electronics(if you happen to splash a little on them). I don't like to use water at all - especially high pressure, even if it doesn't really harm anything it's just my personal preference.

if its oily? brake clean, spray that **** on, and wipe away with a towel. and spray some more! hahaha

but to make it shiny, degreaser... put degreaser on, let it sit for a couple minutes, wipe with a towel.
