I think most SS/SC guys are using premium because it is what the manual reccomends. Although I thought I heard the 2.4 or 2.2 recommends premium also. I put 93 octane in all my cars!

I use premium but when I get gas shock from the sudden price rise I'll fill up with regular. If I'm going on a long trip I'll put in regular for the long trip through florida.

The 2.2 recommends regular gas so that's what I use.

I've read multiple times that you put in what your manual says b/c any higher grade is a waste of money and any lower is bad for your engine.

I use premium in my Cobalt SS SC and Sea-Doo GTX Ltd. Regular though in my Caprice Classic.

And always from Shell. Top Tier gasoline ftw!

I've used premium in 2 of my cars. The Balt and the Celica. I had an Integra and used mid-grade. And I always use Shell!

I have a 2.2. Run regular b/c thats what it recomends. I didn't notice much of a difference with the premium and only run it at the track.

the whole point of octane is the gasolines resistance to detonation. with a boosted, high compression, performance motor, its necessary to have premium because the cars run very advanced commonly, and they need to havea fuel that can withstand the advancing. Not to mention that when working right the car will use the premium to cause a MUCH better air/fuel mixture before the plug sparks the mixture. I would put it in ANY car. from what i understand also its alot cleaner on the motor and the parts also tend to last longer seeing as how the car has to work LESS to get a perfect mix to combust.

i would never recommend this but if u were to put regular in lets say a ss/sc or something that required it. 100% proven the car WILL misfire. or predetonate. the fuel will ignite purely from the compression. not from the spark plug sparking. if it means anyhting diesels dont have spark plugs as many ppl know, they just rely solely on compress diesel fuel and having it ignite without a spark . had a big like debate/question going on at school(uti) about diesel fuel and octane ratings with teachers and students. from what i remember i was told deisels have an octane of like 54? i think either way its VERY suceptable to detonating before a "spark" is needed hense the lack of plugs.

you started out great, but then went back to the world of myths!

it doesn't burn cleaner, doesn't burn better, just harder to burn.

you're welcome... there's myths that it burns cleaner, hotter, and helps clean the engine and parts. very common myth, don't feel bad

these are probably all spread by the oil companies so people think they need more expensive gas. like they don't make enough money as it is!

Premium ONLY in my SS/SC. I don't care how high gas goes, I paid for the car, I'll pay whatever to keep it running right.

I'll be picking up my new 2.4L SS next Wednesday - what is the recommended fuel rating for the 2.4L SS? Mid-grade or premium?

Premium...only from BP

May drop to mid-grade when prices shoot back up though

when prices go up.. regular, mid-grade, and premium all go up.. so the difference is always the same between levels

example... regular 2.199 / midgrade 2.299 / premium 2.399
12 gallon tank = $26.38 / $27.58 / $28.78

gas rises!!!
reguar 2.599 / midgrade 2.699 / premium 2.799
12 gallon tank = $31.18 / $32.38 / $33.58

im just pointing this out.. a lotta people around me drop octane levels when prices go up when they need the higher octane for their performance vehicle.. when in reality the price difference is the same ... if ur car doesnt need the higher octane then use the lowest one necessary
