What gas type do you use?
when prices go up.. regular, mid-grade, and premium all go up.. so the difference is always the same between levels
example... regular 2.199 / midgrade 2.299 / premium 2.399
12 gallon tank = $26.38 / $27.58 / $28.78
gas rises!!!
reguar 2.599 / midgrade 2.699 / premium 2.799
12 gallon tank = $31.18 / $32.38 / $33.58
im just pointing this out.. a lotta people around me drop octane levels when prices go up when they need the higher octane for their performance vehicle.. when in reality the price difference is the same ... if ur car doesnt need the higher octane then use the lowest one necessary

87 = 2.89
89 = 2.99
93 = 3.29
In tempe premium is fairly cheap and i love it.
If your putting regular in your 2.4, or ss/sc, please go to the dealership, hand them your keys, and tell them you need a 2.2, because you cant be trusted with anything other than the 2.2 engine.
You CHOSE to pay more for your car, by going for the ss, or the ss/sc
dont you DARE cheap out $2 at the pump and treat it like dirt.

I always try to put 91 octane in.
and it suks bein in NY.... regular is at like 3.25 right now wit premium hoverin at 3.50
the whole point of octane is the gasolines resistance to detonation. with a boosted,high compression, performance motor, its necessary to have premium because the cars run very advanced commonly, and they need to havea fuel that can withstand the advancing. Not to mention that when working right the car will use the premium to cause a MUCH better air/fuel mixture before the plug sparks the mixture. I would put it in ANY car. from what i understand also its alot cleaner on the motor and the parts also tend to last longer seeing as how the car has to work LESS to get a perfect mix to combust.
i would never recommend this but if u were to put regular in lets say a ss/sc or something that required it. 100% proven the car WILL misfire. or predetonate. the fuel will ignite purely from the compression. not from the spark plug sparking. if it means anyhting diesels dont have spark plugs as many ppl know, they just rely solely on compress diesel fuel and having it ignite without a spark . had a big like debate/question going on at school(uti) about diesel fuel and octane ratings with teachers and students. from what i remember i was told deisels have an octane of like 54? i think either way its VERY suceptable to detonating before a "spark" is needed hense the lack of plugs.

actually if you were to use octane to rate diesel, it would be much lower. more like 20 area. but diesel is measured in cetane.
also i use 87 in my car. i have run 93 and noticed no hesitation/jerking when i first get on it but i think with a cai (smooth transition) that will fix the issue. i was thinking possibly air flow disruption at the throttle body from the resonator.
but i also use shell. works well for me
More octane means more power. Not true!! The octane number is a measure of a fuel's resistance to detonation, or knocking. High-performance, high-compression engines are more likely to detonate, and so require higher-octane fuels. However, the higher the octane, the slower the fuel burns, and you want the fuel to burn fast. But a fuel that burns too fst will also cause detonation, so you want to use the lowest octane number you can for your motor. This is some information from VP fuels.
Try with regular 87 @ $3.56 a gallon. 91 @ $3.76 a gallon. That's what we pay here in Hawaii. GM recommends certain things. Just like anything else. It's not necessary to run Premium in a stock SS/SC. But when you do the stage upgrades, your motor becomes high compression and then the need for premium is there.
