My car's TCM on Monday decided to die while I was driving. Doors were locking and unlocking while the transmission won't shift at all and I have an automatic. I was going 40 mph on a highway with the engine shooting past 4,000 rpms.

Dropped it off at the dealership and was stuck with a Nissan Versa for 2 days. It wasn't a bad car but the seat was comfy as hell, I could sleep on it.

I got the car back Wednesday and now I'm worried about replacing the timing chain tensioner since I just went past 130,000 miles.

It sucked that it had to happen while driving on an interstate highway, I initially thought it was possessed lol. I kept an eye on the rpms because if I went any faster, I could overheat the engine or break something. Basically it felt like it was stuck in third gear. Luckily the dealership was coming up less than 10 miles on the following exit.

The money I was saving for a new exhaust went to the new TCM. The exhaust will need to be replaced too since it was starting to rattle due to some rusted bolts; I could hear it vibrating loudly when idling. Maybe it's the manifold...

Oh mine happened when I was working on the car. I forgot to take off the battery cable and a little fuel got on it. Some spark came out and that was the end of it lol. I was stuck in 1st gear. Forever!! Lol. I got a used tcm and had it flashed at stealership. Had stock tune on the newly flashed tcm so yeah spinning all over the place with a tap of the throttle was fun -_-

Hi

I'm Jackie (short for my real name) and I have been here for almost a year. Amber (her real name) is not new either, she just assists me with this forum on my days off. We are in fact females and we do in fact know a lot about cars. We work from the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Mi in the USA and are indeed here to assist you. You can ask us about anything concerning your Cobalt including warranty information, recalls, dealership locations, features, build date, build sheets and just about any other Cobalt related question. I may not post on the threads much but I am always here and I answer every private message that is sent to me. I have never posted a picture because I didn't know you guys wanted one.
