What Octane Gas Do You???
I was thinking about it, since Sunoco dumped 94, I guess they do have 91 at their old 4-grade pumps. But it's like 2 cents a gallon cheaper than 93. Why bother at that point?
I really miss the old sunoco 94 and wish they would bring it back..... I ran a ton of it threw my old Z28.
Hope you don't travel very far from home then. 93 just isn't available some places, and it's not a matter of if the station is reputable or cares. Higher elevations don't need as much, and 91 is the highest you can get.
89 actually is a horrible thing for a 2.4 to run. 87 would be better. But 91-93 is best.
It varies by year
Cool its your car if you dont care about it thats your business.
Though just by that statement alone I wouldnt buy anything from you. Because if you dont take care of your car then you probably wont take care of your parts or other stuff.
A 2.4 can run 87 or 91+ But theres a noticeable difference when running 91+
93 all day everyday. i prefer v power, but i'll take a bp where it has individual pumps for each octane that way when i select 93 i get all 93 not 93 and then some leftover 87 from the last user.
Real quick;
The number of Octane (the best fuel to handle compression) needed for best MPG is almost ALWAYS what the manufacturer tells you in your manual. For 2.4l and 2.0l Engines it recommends 91+ because they are high performance engines, the compression stroke (where the engine compresses a cylinder-full of air and gas into a much smaller volume before igniting it with a spark plug. ) in our vehicles recommends a compression ratio to keep the vehicle running smoothly. The octane rating of the gasoline you put in your car, tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When it ignites from compression instead of the spark plugs, it causes knocking in the engine. Refer to the "DON'T USE CHEAP GAS, ON A HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE, YOU CHEAP MOTHE.." above or how they put it (more politticaly correct) "Use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher." ANYWAYS back to what I was saying.. When you hear knocking, you are playing Russian roulette with your engine and unless you want to save "dollars" which *ahem* is causing worse mileage (BTW, because the compression ratio is too low and their is too much heptane [the other fuel used with Octane-> 87 octane, 13 heptane etc..). Well you are shaving "pennies" off, getting shittier gas mileage and potentially causing 1000's of dollars of damage to your engine.. oh and you are causing your vehicle to perform shitty.
Can you elaborate please? I Know some places like MacEWEN usually throw in Ethanol in their blend of 89 which is really not good for our high performance engines (unless it is tuned for it), the general concept of Ethanol is that it is more economically friendly.. works good in Economy Cars.
Wrong, if you have SS/Sport you should run 91+. There is nothing else to be said.. if you were a bodybuilder would you eat at McDonald's? This isn't a debate, it is science. 91 + Octane should go in your vehicle.
EDIT: Sorry for the double post!

You are talking about 1/10's of a gallon when you are putting 10-12 gallons in your car. You can probably get that much variation in octane ratings just by going to a different pump.
If you want to get technical, he's actually correct. It's Premium Recommended, not Premium Required. That being said, it's pretty damn stupid NOT to run premium in the 2.4 or 2.0 motors, because like you said that's what it's designed to run. That and if you can't afford the extra $3.60 per tank that it costs to put premium in, then you probably bought the wrong car. The knock sensor will adjust for a lower octane gas, so you CAN put regular or mid-grade in and run it............it'll just run like absolute ****. Now, as soon as you flash a tune on the car, that goes out the window, then premium is required.
