What should I do?

Alright a couple questions.

I've been looking to get rally stripes for my SS/SC.
The first question is if any one knows that a racing stripes is a package option from GM?
The second is wheter anyones seen this kit or have / had dealings with the company.
Auto Trim Design
http://www.autotrimdesign.net/detail...H2__28616.html
I like to look and they have several other options as well.

Now if I install the stripes does the value of my car decrease?
And if thier is the package option from GM and it's installed what does the value change with it.
Rethoricly speaking of course
I brought it up with some friends and they told me it decreases value and makes the car look like I'm bling blinging it.
What are your opinions and thoughts?

it all depends on who wants to buy the car when you sell it... if you put racing stripes and a guy loves the way it looks he'll pay that little extra, if the next guy thinks it is fugly as hell he's not going to pay as much, however at a dealer they will try to give as little as possible for it so they will use the ugly excuse, of course not that direct lol

I have plans to own it to either the wheels fall off or I trade it in 5 or 6 years for a 5th gen Camaro.

I checked with a dealer and they said that the monte carlo's have racing stripes from the factory as an option but weren't sure about the cobalt. Anyone know?

Factory option, no, not that I know of. No racing stripes.

I noticed something about an RS Package.
Is that true and what comes with it?

edit one sec...

http://www.brianharrischevrolet.com/f_partsdept.htm

click on "enter our accessory catalog", give the info about the car, and look under exterior, it shows all of the "special edition" or whatever you want to call them graphics

Wow!!
And I use to always like the RS options.
What are those, spider rims?
And that decal covering the entire wing looks weird.
I like the RS badge thou.
Does anyone have this package?

Auto Trim Design is real good. I ordered the vinyl parts in yellow to cover my "SS" badges.

I like the SS cover it looks good.
I guess then I should ask how long do decals last?
Does the color fade?
And does it effect the paint underneath it?
Thanks, looks like I'm getting me some stripes!

They last pretty long and the color usually doesn't fade for a long time unless you get some cheap stuff. Here's a pic of my boys stripes on his balt

Stripes can always be removed if you get tired of them so resale value won't take a hit.

I say do it.

it depends on what you want to do with your car in the long run.. vinyl is okay but i dont like the way vinyl looks on a car.. i would paint the stripes on the car personaly, you get a better finish, no vinyl fade or cracks, it looks like it was factory paint and not an afterthought. and it just looks better for any show type events... IMO......

I've heard that to but I'm told if the stripes stay on for to long then due to color fade the rest of the car will be a few shade lighter than the paint underneath the stripes. Especially here in Florida.
Is this true?

I totally agree with you. It's what I did for my 89 Camaro RS when I painted it. Except my race stripes where done as a ghost effect. When I get to my home pc later today I'll upload the photos of it.
The problem is I don't have the time nor money to paint another car again so this is the next best option.

your paint will fade over time yes. and if you remove the vinyl after a few years the paint should be the color of the car back when you put the vinyl on..

paint is expensive. but not that hard to do yourself if you have a weekend and a garage...it can be done

Here's the car before hand with horrible paint peel.

Here's the car painted. See any stripes?

Here's a back view.

Another Front view.

And here's an angle where the stripes can really be seen.

God I loved that car before that jack a$$ pulled out in front of me.

So how hard is it to put vinyl on?
Any tips for a more professional look?
