WhiteSSBalt, back from the dead?

Guess who's back?

If you guessed Eminem......sorry to dissapoint you. Its just lol 'ol me

Let me warn some of you in advance. This is going to be a LONG post, and is primarily aimed towards the people on here who are already familiar with me/my car.

As many of you know (newer members need not apply), I kind of "quit" the Cobalt scene last year about this time. I had been a very involved member since late '06 when I first picked the car up brand new. I met ALOT of amazing people through the car, and I certainly don't take any of that for granted. I also used to host big meets, such as Dave & Busters meet I put together (with the help of a few people like Max, 2fastSS, and Brian, yel-low) up in MD last spring. That was sadly the last meet I ever put together, and even worse, ever attended period. I had alot of reasons for falling off the grid. The biggest reason was that in my head, I had hit a brick wall with the car. I felt I had done everything I had ever envisioned doing to the car, and accomplished more than I had ever set to do. After winning COTM on a few different forums/sites, including here, and even landing a feature in Tuner Maneuver Magazine, I felt it was time to hang up my boots and move on. Plus, alot of the "OG" members on here were starting to drop off as well, which I found disappointing, and the new SS/TC and it's owners were basking in the spotlight......so I decided to turn my interests elsewhere, and create a fresh start for myself in the automotive world.

And that's when I fell head over heels in love......with the stance scene. You know....those "silly" cars that practically sit on the ground with insanely aggressive wheel/tire fitment. Think ultra wide low offset wheels, stretched tires, and copious amounts of camber. Love it....hate it....do what ya want with it, but THAT is the type of car that appeals to me nowadays. So inadvertently, I pretty much dissapeared from here and joined such forums as StanceWorks.com, wrongfitmentcrew.com, fatlace's forum, StanceNation.com, and became and avid follower of hellaflush's website. Around that same time I started tossing the idea around of selling my car to start a more "appropriate" project to indulge in my newfound interests.

Rather than go on and on, here is the scoop. The Cobalt has been for sale for quite some time now and i've had very little interest in it. Lets face it; there's not exactly a booming market for a high mileage (74k), modified Cobalt SS. The economy is slow, and the Japanese sport compacts have been, and always will be the more popular cars. And trading it is is completely out of the question, as what i've been offered (don't ask) versus what I still owe....well, lets just say its not pretty, and i'd come out VERY upside down. I originally wanted to sell the Cobalt and purchase a dream car of mine, a '10 RX-8. My job has been very good to me this past year, considering I was unemployed for a few months last year and have only been with my current employer, Comcast, for just over a year now. But as time goes on, i'm growing more and more impatient on ever selling my car, and thus I have devised a new plan.

And so, "Round 2" as I like to call it has been devised for the Cobalt. Its been over 2 years since I last did any modifications to Cobalt. All i've done is drive it and keep up on the maintenance. I recently picked up a daily driver, so the Cobalt sees alot less road time......and I figured what the hell. Every dog has it's day, and my car is ready to turn over a new leaf before I retire it indefinitely.

The car will technically remain for sale, but I figured if i'm stuck with it, I might as well continue on with the car to fit my current tastes. Don't worry, its not going to look like a VW when i'm done. However, it will be slammed/flush after i'm done with it. Here is the plan:

-19"x8.5" +35 BBS CH's (silver)
-215/35/19 Falken FK452 tires for a nice, mild stretch
-Stance GR+ coilovers
-Eibach wheel spacers (width to be determined)
-SS/SC front lip to "complete the look"
-and of course I will be rolling the fenders to accommodate all of this

I am going to test fit the wheels/tires before determining what width spacers I want to run, but I can tell you right now that an 8.5" wide wheel with a +45 offset just isn't going to cut it. On some of the forums i'm on, there are similar FWD cars like Scion TC's rocking low offset 9.5"-10.5" wheels.....but they have the advantage of adjustable rear camber, so I can't go quite as extreme as them.

Love it or hate it, that's whats in store for the old Cobalt. I plan on being a bit more active on here moving forward, however, I will still be frequenting my beloved stance enthusiast forums too. I guess you could say it's combining the best of both worlds

I've decided to go with these wheels instead: http://www.performanceplustire.com/p...755#prodAnchor

They're 8.5" wide with a +35 offset, so i'll still likely run a 15mm-20mm spacer

I contemplated the idea of getting a custom set of CCW Classics, but (not to hate) they are rather played out in the stance scene, though I do give you props for being one of the first to rock them on a Cobalt. Also, they were a bit pricier than what I was looking to pay. The BBS's are $510 a wheel.....and my budget stops there, lol. Tax return is taking care of the wheels/tires, and my wallet is funing the new SS/TC front fascia and the Stance GR+ coilovers

And yeah i'm back....for now at least. Car is still for sale. I'm just adjusting the price to compensate the addition of the new stuff thats coming. I figure if I can't sell it I might as well make myself happy with it for the time being.

Its on as in.....?

If you talking speed....well yes Max, I would hope that a brand new turbocharged Cobalt would be faster than my non-boosted SS with 74k on it

Remember, i'm gearing this car towards stance. Thats why I have been missing from here. I've been living on hellaflush.com, stanceworks.com, stancenation.com, wrongfitmentcrew.com, canibeat.com, etc etc. And good luck @ having it more aggressively stanced than mine. I've done my research through and through brother. **** is going to be loooow and flush

Also, white Max? Really? Gonna rub it in that much eh? lol. Owell, my car will still have OG status. This thing just keeps on ticking. I'm getting "Round 2" on my tags once I have it all together, which I speculate will be around July or so.

haha oooh word. Yessir. I'll hold down the old school Cobalt love and you can show up the new kids

If you do get it, which will likely be around the same time my new look will be rounding the corner, we should setup and epic meet. Just like old times man!

Thanks homie! With as many miles as I have on it now, I feel like I can justify modding it in a way that is bound to destroy it's undercarriage

I'm ordering the wheels/tires in a few weeks, and then the SS/TC front fascia, spacers and Stance GR+ coilovers will be soon to follow.

When you scrape your oil pan, I'll drive to wherever you live and give you a high-five for being the first cobalt to do so :P

lol deal. I can only go but so low though. We have such **** wheel choices, and I just don't feel like paying for new hubs like some guys on here have done. I'm going to run a 215 tire on the 8.5"s, which is a mile stretch....but I REALLY wish I could run a 205. Problem is, no one makes a 205/35/19 tire. I have searched high and low, and a 215 is the skinnest I can find in that profile/diamater. But that light stretch should allow me to go a bit lower. And of course i'm rolling the fenders to accommodate all of this. Also sucks that our cars have solid rear ends which doesn't allow for any rear camber adjustment. Only way we could run some negative camber is to fab up shims or use washers, which is too ghetto for me. So it will be flush, but not over the top. But no worries, i'm aiming to be the lowest Cobalt on coilovers. I have the knowledge, I have the money.....just gotta find the time to do it all.

You can never go too low. And if your going to get spacers, just get the hubcentric spacer/adapters. You can choose your width, and go with a good set of 5x114.3 wheels... and theyre like $200... As for the rear a little cambers good, even if your do shim it out, but for the love of god do not put VIP style camber into it... please. I can't wait to see how this goes haha

I'd rather just go with some $60 Eibach spacers that are meant for a 5x110 hub. I like those BBS CH's enough to justify them. They are a +35 offset, so i'll likely go with a 25mm spacer, which will put me down to a +10 offset. Hella low offset for a Cobalt! But with the light stretch and the rolled fenders I should be able to make it work
