ROFL! And I thought I was the only one this happened to. It's so embarrassing and annoying. I thought I was just an electrifying person or something. LOL.
I also try to close my car door by pushing the window.
My first car was a GM and so is my current car. I wonder if there is some grounding issue with these cars. I have no idea. I guess having fabric seats doesn't help because of static electricity. My guess is that having leather seats would reduce the chance of getting zapped. Also, I don't know if the type of shoes is the issue because I've had it happen with different pairs of shoes.

This happens worse on my fiance's 2002 Sentra then on my car. I hate it!! I always complain about it.
What I do is touch my sleeve against the metal on the door as I'm getting out. The shock though the material of my shirt is hardly noticeable.

I rented a 2003 Cavalier for a few days in December and I got shocked every time I got out of the car. But as far as I know, I haven't had that problem with any other car.

Well, it's good to use fabric softener during laundry to lessen the chance of static electricity in general, but it hasn't stopped me from getting zapped.
Also, I did try Static Gard spray (or whatever it's called) on my car seats a few times, but I don't recall that really helping much with the problem. Maybe it just helped a little.
In the meantime, just tell people that your car is "shocked" at how cool you are, that shocking you is just a natural reaction from the car.

all you gotta do is touch the metal before you step out of the car and hold it till you ground yourself..... my moms Malibu does it and g/fs Ford Focus.. but I LOVE the leather in my Grand Prix(no shocks there)

i suggest trying to step out of your car without sliding across the seat. Your slide causes the electricity. Although i believe it is going to be hard to to slide out of your car. Be careful at gas stations really careful we dont want anything to happen to your Cobalt, wait i mean u,

You could also line your underwear with tin foil to disperse the electrical charge.
Some people hang those grounding straps at the back of the car that drag on the ground - not sure if they work though.
