stock ss/scs tires are absolutely ludicrous in snow.

dont do it.
anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is fooling themselves.

Shouldn't the tires on SS/NA be better in the winter since they are all season? I'm wondering because that's what I have, and i haven't driven it in the winter yet. I tried driving my GP GTP in the winter with shitty tires and the front end would fish tail with barely a touch of the gas.

i bought my car last february and only drove it through the last few snow storms. It did just fine in the snow, but the car was BRAND SPANKIN NEW so i drove like a grandma. as said above, drive slowly and reasonably and you should be fine.

I know I'm quite delayed haha but that's how bored I am.. anyway when the winter comes.. make good use of your 'L' gear and '1' gear. 'L' helps control the engine speed which somehow helped me.. and '1' turns off the traction control.. really helps get you unstuck... or just crash the cobalt and buy an AWD vehicle.

I hunkered down and bought a $500 beater civic. I figured it was cheaper than letting my car depreciate from the salty corrosion factory called NY.

TRUTH!!
Same goes for the Adirondacks of New York... going 60mph in 8 inches of snow without giving it a thought while people from 'down south' are in a panic!

I avoided the whole 'Cobalt in a ditch upside down' thing again this winter. I bought a 98 Cavalier sedan for $500... Much better than the Luminator from last winter, and in better shape.

I did 2 seasons of Ice Racing up in Wisconsin a few years back.... after doing that, driving on the street (ice, snow or no snow) is a piece of cake!
To those out there who need to hone their skills find a local club that does Ice Racing and do an event or 2...It will make all the difference in the world

This will be my first winter with the Cobalt. Actually, it's my first winter with a FWD car, haha :-). I drove a Mustang GT before this for 4 years. How did I do it? 5k RPM in 1st gear all the way home, hahahaha :-)

I'll take FWD in winter of RWD any day lol i feel much safer pulling in ice and snow than pushing. the stock tires for the SS/SC are summer performance though so you might want to change those

lol, if someone say on this forum that they are running thier stock pirrelis in the snow then i wish they crash the ****** car in a dish, they are PERFORMANCE SUMMER TIRE, if you are too ****** stupid or cheap to buy winter tire then store the car or crash the damn thing, you dont deserve to drive a car.

the few times I got caught in the snow with the Cobalt, I was on the stock Pirellis, almost bald, and I got the car back up the mountain and home. Friend of mine with his early 05 SS drove all last winter on what was left of his Pirellis. No problem. It sucked in the snow and you had to work at it, but still got the car home and stayed out of the rails/ditch!

Someone had mentioned ice racing a few posts up... if you can do this, DO IT. It's a blast!!!

well, i just drove almost 6 hours out of a 12 hour drive in a snow storm and let me tell you that the cobalt ss/sc with a limited slip with good winter tire, is a beast in the snow, 4x4 trucks were not keeping up with me on on that highway........

Empty Parking Lot + Lots of ebraking = "Slide recovery practice"

I honestly think doing the above has helped me out immensely. Of course it wasn't so much "Slide recovery pratice" as "powersliding"

The key is to just be careful...
For those who compare the SS/SC to other model cobalts make me
THEY ARE different tires (used to be in the summer only)

I'm sticking with the pirellis for the winter though , just not going to drive when there is bad snowstorms.
