Worth it?

Well ever since my dad talked to Mongorat427 about supercharging my car, he's been digging around everywhere to get an engine with all the parts needed. We've been searching a mix of Craigslist and junkyards for parts, engines, or a complete wrecked car. Well I found a 2008 SS/TC that was hit from behind and has some scrapes on the front. It's on a auto auction site in my area (Aliquippa) and it isn't up for bid yet. If we can get this thing for cheap, would it be worth fixing? It has a couple dents and needs a new front fender, rear bumper, and trunklid. It only has 34,000 miles and the interior still looks pretty good. We'd be doing all the work ourselves for the most part so that would keep costs down too. So would it be worth jumping ship from a bought new 07 G5 GT with 40,000 miles to a fixed up 08 SS/TC?

Thanks guys!

That's the first thing we look for in the pics. I know it's hard to tell from a picture, but it looks pretty straight. The sunroof is in one piece and the door looks straight from what we can tell. I'm sure it helps that my dad used to do body work for like 10 years, so he knows what to look for.

You'll make way more power and have a nicer car with the TC than trying to supercharge an N/A. And make more power with less time money and bullshit to boot

sunroof is a good indicator. i would look at the trunk floor pan. as well as on the quarter panel between the rear 1/4 windows and main rear window and along the roof lines for any light buckling. along with just in front of the rear wheels between it and the door jam. getting hit in the rear, and being sold as salvaged at an auction, seems to tell that the pictures don't show everything.

Here's some pics of it. He said it might need "put on a frame machine and need a small tug on the back". He knows his **** about this kind of stuff haha. And it does depend on the price. I think he said he'll go $3k, maybe a little more, it just depends.

And I know it'll make more power than a SC'd 2.4. I just wanted a bump in power without ditching the car. But hey, if this works out then I won't complain.

Yaaaa as of right now, my dad's pretty hell bent on getting it. He's got a guy at work that's already a member of the auto auction place and if the guy won't bid on it for us, my dad will drop the money needed for a membership. It's kinda funny because before he'd say "in your dreams", now it's "I will stop at nothing" hahaha

Buy it, transfer everything over to your G5. Seats, wheels, drivetrain, etc. That would probably be a first.

For 3 or 4000 you could make more than that parting it out if you couldn't get it to drive able condition

It says the car starts and runs, so it'll definitely drive. The only bad part (obviously) is the trunk. If that is the only bad thing about it, then it's easily fixed. I mentioned swapping everything over into the G5 and the response was "Hell no". And ya, the fall back is to part it out but until then we need to wait until it goes up for auction.

EDIT: Welp, here's something to **** on my parade. In PA, this place doesn't do public auctions. So we need our friend which has a dealership license to do it for us. Let the fun begin!

Swapping could be done in a weekend, especially if you have help.

Guarantee the trunk floor is pushed in and its gonna need pulled. Left quarter panel is buckled to...that may pull out when you pull the floor and or may need a new trunk floor. But there must be some serious damage if that car got totaled. I just fixed a jeep with $16k in damage.

You need like a license of some sort. I don't exactly know, because I do the exact same thing and go through my neighbor who is able to bid on these sites.

Well he's gonna call them tomorrow to see if they can tell him more about it. We aren't that worried if it needs tugged, but there could be something else wrong. I know it did get totaled, but insurance companies seem like they'll total anything with the smallest of damage.

Yea just depends on the insurance company. Hopefully its not buckled at the axle mounting points...That will create nothing but problems.

If all the real damage is what we can see, you should bid up to $7-8k no problem. I would see bidding to $5k if the Frame's ok. You can even upgrade to a nice set of retrofits while you're at it.

I actually already have a spare set of headlights I was planning to build into retro's anyway. The reason he doesn't want to go over 3k is he knows that if I ever to go resell it in the future, I won't get much for it.

That's true, salvage title you will lose like 40-50% off retail, that doesn't leave you with a whole lot.

Victory Red! Haha if you do end up getting it, I want the low rise spoiler Oh and I think the trunk might not be damaged, I think the bumper pushed it up in the collision but once you change that it should probably work with no problems, it doesn't look dented or anything.

I'd say 3k is a perfect amount, selling the wheels, seats and a few other parts you'll already make your money back haha

But yeah I agree that being rear ended the car might have lots of frame damage, mine's been hit REALLY LIGHTLY like you couldn't tell it was hit and the frame was welded underneath the bumper, saw it the other day when I took the bumper off. Didn't bother me I had a feeling and it didn't look too bad but I didn't think a hit like that would cause frame damage, it was basically a 2-3 mph reversing onto a pole. Couldn't have been any worse than that.
