whats your purpose on this site , last time i checked this was a cobalt forum!!! not an sti forum. i've read every post you've put down on this site and it's all been a challenge to some person or another here on the site ...no need for it here. this site is for us to discuss and develop the cobalt potential not listen to sti owner rhetoric.

 

granted i looked over the limited and unlimited part. however, all rules equal, i think there are SOME FWD cars (SS/SC being one of them) that wouldn't be demolished like you think. you take a Lexus IS 250, a WRX Impreza, and for relevence sake, a Cobalt SS/SC and throw them on a track with equal rules, i think the SS would do very well. an AWD platform isn't as good as people think. AWD is a good system in theroy, but you also have to be very controlled with it because you have power going to all the wheels. if you begin to under/over-steer it's harder to correct due to the fact of weight transfer and other vehicle dynamics when entering a turn. basically more to worry about and control. RWD would be better but if you're not paying attention to reference points and break too late going into a turn, you will have exessive oversteer and spin your car. less to control than AWD but maybe not enough control of your "power wheels". FWD you have alot of control over your "power wheels" due to the fact they're also the wheels that steer your car. this being the case you have a greater sense of "road feel". if you begin to understeer (a very prominant but correctible problem in FWD platforms) you can detect it sooner through the steering wheel. like the RWD setup, it's less to control than AWD, but easier to control and "feel" than RWD. the moment you try to push a FWD car too hard into a corner, you're going to notice it quicker. therfore, if you notice it sooner, you can correct it sooner. so, given that the playing field is even, a FWD would not go down with out one hell of a fight.

The NSX offered when it first came out super car performence, handling, looks, but with better gas mileagle and a lot lower price tag, similar to the z06 of now.

How can you guys say the Skyline is overhyped?? It offers the most advanced AWS and one of the most advanced AWD systems to ever be put on a car.

Im not saying the cobalt beat the skyline, but if the skyline didnt cmpete or broke done and the cobalt didnt and won the race, thats a win for the Cobalt. Would/should/whatever. I agree with you on the fact that a well tuned 800hp skyline would destroy most but honestly cuz your such as idiot I just like arguing.

 

It's overhyped because people like you say "how can you say it's overhyped it has one of the most advanced AWD system blah blah blah". Porsche had a better AWD system 10 years earlier in the 959. The Skyline is not revolutionary and it is not a record setter, yet all the kiddies get their jollys off to it every night. 99% of people in the United States would not know the Skyline existed if it weren't for Gran Turismo and the Fast and the Furious. That's a fact. So how great can that car really be?

 

I'm a diehard import fan. I have been for some time. Up until Super Street published the above article many months ago, I couldn't give a f*** about some "domestic sport-compact wannabe GM turd."

The Cobalt may or may not have beat that 800hp Skyline (It wasn't mentioned in the article I read, most likely because it didn't compete to whatever degree). The time attack Cobalt may or may not beat able to beat an 800 hp Skyline. It never happened so we will never know. What we do know is that a domestic, GM sport compact embarassed the living sh*t out of some of Japan's finest and sent them home with their tail between their legs. I'm an huge import fan and that hurt my JDM pride, but it happened. Period. The Cobalt is a commendable machine, domestic or not. Fellow import fans, stop whining and write to your favorite Time Attack participants and tell them to step it up for next year.

PS: The 800hp Skyline. Whether the Cobalt could actually beat it or not, this Skyline most likely would have beaten everything else on the field. which means the Cobalt would have been, at the very worst, second in a lineup of Japan's latest and greatest that ALSO couldn't go toe to to with this 800hp Skyline.

That's amazing for any FF car, no matter how you look at it.

Last night on SpeedVision they showed the GM sponsored Cobalt, and it did break the track record by 3 seconds, and the GTR, which I like, did compete and lost to the Cobalt. The GTR may not be the same GTR referenced in this thread. The Cobalt also beat the STI and the EVO. Two more cars that I like. All of these cars are cool, i.e. Cobalt, GTR, STI, and EVO. Take care.

I like all these cars as well, and have a lot of respect for what the Cobalt can do. But that does not let me be clouded enough to think that it can do things it can't.

 

Hey guys calm down to my knowledge that I have read it did say the cobalt beat a skyline and posted its times. But whatever same like FastssMike I like all the cars Evo is my fav, rx8 sti, skyline. I was surprised to hear that the Cobalt SS took it all and hey its gonna happen again this year this event I mean Im heading up there to buttonwillow to see for myself what goes down, its not far from where I live just 30 miles away. So come November 8 & 9 SuperStreet TIme Attack event im gonna be there hopefully with camera in hand. Last years winner Cobalt Ss time Attack will be there along with others .. cant wait.....

stage 2 is out ... stage 2 plus? a 2.8 pulley would do that job just nice there are 3 2.8" pulleys out that fit to gm specs so I guess if you have a stage 2 with a 2.8 that is your stage 2+

I watched the show on Speed channel last night, the Cobalt did win the event. It set a new record for FF, but it didn't beat the overall track record.

I actually spoke to one of the LI guys and he told me that you were clueless and he asked me specifically to let the Z06 thing go because he is your friend, but I couldn't hold out any longer with how dumb you are being.
