so i just finished this mod,Took me twenty minutes, did everything like Biohazard(with one exception)When he used his dremel to cut the last of the plastic off,he cut along the side(do not do this) you might cut loose the spring for the recoil on the ebrake button, you should cut the piece off from the top as to avoid this.now I purchased the reactive handle and boot from crappy tire for 40 bucks and I to had to cut an inch off the handle(no problem cause when you zap strap back on the boot, you can not see it anyways
thanks to Biohazard for this mod,rep to you,it is much easier to lift and lower it.

^could you post some pics please?

how did you attach the boot?

I'm looking at some momo products for this, although the momo boot is overkill as it's overly expensive for what it is..

ah ok, didn't think you got the same handle as him.

I like that idea but I think the plastic push button looks like crap with such a nice handle! is there a way to make it chrome? like a little plastic chromish cover?

Yes Crappy Tire - is Canadian Tire they're basically like the Automotive super store equivalent to Wal Mart's auto parts department.

This mod looks sweet and its funny cause I was at Canadian Tire last night and saw that exact handle etc up and was like geez that would look good on my balt.... Glad I found this, think I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Thanks for the write up guys.

I just bought one off of ebay. I thought it was going to be a little easier. Oh well....I'll give it a whirl.

That plastic one piece... Is there way to take it off with out cutting?

I don't think the cobalts are much different than the '07 G5, but mined just pulled right off. Its made to pop right in place. I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not, but if you pull the hand brake all the way up, then with a lil bit of force, it should slide right off. Hopefully, the cobalts are the same...

EDIT:
Nevermind. I just noticed that he mentioned the cover comes right off also. So, I guess I have the same question. Is there a handle that will fit over the plastic piece without any cutting?

I guess not. I really don't hack into the plastic. (2ND layer of plastic)

Here is another option with no cutting (little more expensive though):

Wow. Nice job! But given the cutting, I'm not so sure that I'll be doing that to my car.

Yea, the momo handles look good, but a bit pricey. I'm going to wait to see what everybody else does to theirs before I decide what to do to mine. Thanks for the help.

well i got my ebrake done, i bought a CF handle, and a CF boot, now it matches my CF shift boot and shift knob, yay, well i had to do alot fo cutting, i cut that plastic cover on the ebrake, not the handle but the other plastic under the handle, cut it off ti'll it was just the metal frame left, than i had to cut 2" off the ebrake handle, had to go to a shop and get it done, cut this handle was stainless steel, not aluminum, so i couldnt cut it with my hand saw, and the band saw i have isnt made for anything that thick and hard, so i had it cut at a shop for $10, than i slid it on, but i didnt like the black rubber botton, so i cut it in 1/2 and kept the bottom piece, and put on the chrome button that came w/the handle, so now when i push the shroem one, the bottom 1/2 of the original is being pushed in, so it still works good, i slid on the CF boot, and now im all done, looks nice, wihs i had a camera to post pics, but the boot isnt as loose as the one shown above, on mine i had only a lil bit of boot left, so it's not all gangster, i mean baggy, lol
