Update:

The autozone as well as fram and champ fuel filters will work on any cobalt. The fuel filters sold by these companies all have no pressure regulators internally, so the fuel pressure is regualted by the computer (assumed to be at a regulator somewhere closer to the fuel rail).

ALSO:

2008 and 2009 SS/TC fuel filter is internal to the fuel pump and is nonservicable, the entire fuel pump must be replaced.

Thanks. I guess that is good and bad for SS/TC owners:

1). No need to stock fuel filters and to replace them

2). If you do need to replace it, the fuel pump module has to be replaced! $300+

3). We need a clean source of fuel at all times.

that's terrible news. Hope it doesn't get clogged up for a long time, but who knows.

All I know is my 2.2L was dirty as hell at 50k miles and I hope the LNF doesn't haven issues with this before about 150k miles cause that's a bitch.

The idea is to change the filter BEFORE you start seeing any problems. Once you start getting rough idle or power loss due to a clogged fuel filter you are getting crap into your injectors and causing damage.

i changed it , worked just fine, but then turned it on for the second time and got, cel, running lean, map sensor, and fuel trim low. im sure it has to do with unplugging the fuel relay, not sure about map sensor. but my budys a tuner so he cleaered them.

yeah, when you relieve the gas pressure it will throw a CEL. You can always just unhook your battery for like 10 seconds and hook it back up and it will clear the codes. (TECHNICALLY you should unplug the battery when changing the fuel filter, or any work for that matter, although I know nobody wants to hassle with unhooking the battery everytime they do anything.)

I'm in the process of making a video of this right now. I'm running into a problem with the main line, that quick disconnect is a bitch, trying to fit it inside the filter to remove it....

this thread helped me out, but i want to make a suggestion. DO NOT purchase the crappy plastic quick disconnect tools the OP shows for the fuel filter. They suck ass, and do not work very well. After 15 mins of fighting with them, I gave up and went to Advanced Auto to buy a metal quick disconnect tool. The metal tool not only worked great, but acutally provides some leverage unlike the plastic push-in tool. With the metal disconnect tool, I had the fuel filter off in mins.

I think they recommend changing it every 32K miles or 52K kilometers.

i completely agree with everything said in this thread about the stupid plastic disconnects! I bought the metal after wrestling with the filter and the plastic one, and boom! it came off in less than 30 seconds!
