Interior: How To: Add Aux Input to pre '07 Cobalts
Custom Aux input soldered into factory radio with XM receiver. I stripped the insulation off of a small section of each wire, and soldered in there.
Custom Aux input soldered into factory radio with XM receiver. Before the Soldering.
i snipped a 3.5mm female to L and R RCA wire. soldered my own 18ga wires to the L, R, and Ground, and then covered it with heat shrink.
during the soldering. I used teflon tape as insulation because the plastic around the factory wires was melting from the heat.
The Teflon successfully insulated it and avoided the problem.
I bent the wires slightly to create a better solder bond as the wires i used were 18ga solid copper. Wayyy thicker than the factory stranded wire.
here is the final product. more pictures available upon request.
Let me know what you guys think about it?

You did this great, I'm very impressed.
I might have to go back and re-do mine.
I'm not losing money so I'm not that mad, but credit would be nice, or at very least a link back to this site.
So for future reference feel free to share my work but please:
1. Post only a LINK to here
2. At least give me a credit
3. If you must copy and paste, please link back to my original post or this forum

by one plug i assume you dont have Xm installed. However it is the same receiver unit, which means there is a slot for a 2nd plug. Therefore you need to buy the wiring harness. Maybe you can find the part on GMpartswarehouse, or do a search online for such a thing. If you do find that wiring harness you can then just follow the directions as mentioned above.
I dont see why this wouldnt work. Thought i cant guarantee it will.
Another option....call up a junk yard if you find an ss or a base model with the upgraded receiver im sure you can get the wiring harness off the radio for pennies.
Good luck

I could hug you right now I'm so damn excited about this. One of my major complaints about this car, fixed.
Not as classy as some, but I prefer function, I slightly notched the bottom the trim with a drill bit, and just ran a coiled Griffin out. I say that as I went through many other brands with the iPod in a Scion tC and the Griffin still has held up.

Sounds great, XM still works great, I love it.

the problem comes when people think they are on correctly, and they are not posing a problem for a short.. i guess a bad crimp can do the same...
Problem finally solved!!! After doing a little research and talking with a dealership custom shop.. there is a PAC Module available that connects to the back of the non-XM radio that provides an Aux. input. To switch to the aux, you use the BAND button and it'll take you to another menu after AM. I haven't had it installed just yet.. but will give more info/pics once it's all set..
hope this helps..

Ok for chevellegirl, I found the module. click here: http://www.pac-audio.com/. Then scroll down and put ur type of car, model, and year. It will then take you too another screen. The product on the top should be it. with that you get two audio plug ins and all of the stuff you need. Its 129.99. I emailed the company and i am awaiting verifacation that this is the right one, but by the looks, im all most 100% sure it is. if i get comformation, im ordering one today.

Hey man just giving you a heads up....the new radios wont work with the old cars....the old ones have separate buttons for the diagnostic controls (mileage, oil%, etc) next to the steering wheel...the new one however has them on the radio itself...therefore ive been told that the computer wont be able to communicate the same way.....
HOWEVER....id expect the aux input will work (but the computer might not, unless you did some re-wiring)
