Interior: How To: Add Aux Input to pre '07 Cobalts
IF anyone can help, i have started doing this to my 06, and my aux cable only had 3 really small fuzzy wires. The wires were so small i cant imagine that it will work will i need a new auxillary cable? the one i used was pretty old. Also there is a bigger black tube with a red cable inside of it that was also wired to the tan, green and brown, does anyone know what this is and were it goes?

umm i'd recommend just going and buying a new cable. like a monster cable or something good, the more wire strands you have to work with the better. as for the other wires you speak of idk havent seen them in a while just follow the instructions, went easy for me
I would like to do this mod to my cobalt, I don't have a problem ripping the dash apart. I guess my problem is not knowing 100% which wires to splice, how to splice them and the little details like what kind of AUX input you used, where you got it and if any will work. any help?
^^^I just bought a aux jack from radioshack. Had to file the back of plastic peice to make it thin enough to screw on tight but still works great after five months of use.
Did this mod before going to college. Awesome improvement and if done right looks totally stock. My XM radio even started working for some reason after doing it but shuts off like after a couple days and then turns back on. Weird but cool ha Thanks for this it was a big help and only took about 2 hours total and thats just cause i did it slow to make sure it was right.

Soo I need help guys... I have an 2007 cobalt ss my radio had aux but it's not there anymore Idk why but the person I got the car from cut it out. But I tried to do this mod since my radio does have XM got the music to play but it wasn't clear at a high level. Any suggestions? I really don't want to have to buy a radio but I will if I have to
So I'm trying to do mine now with a Pipeline AUX cable I got from Radioshack. Problem is, I see the three copper strands of wire but they are all shielded and it also has an extra silver wire for conductivity I suppose. I'm trying to ascertain which one is the ground by just holding it to the tan/white ground wire and then touching the others to see if I get some feedback but nothing so far. after I figure this out, I am going to solder them directly together.
Any tips would be appreciated. Oh, and I discovered the last four letters of my XM ID was ****, which I guess explains why this car is screwing me.
EDIT: So upon further investigation, I found that I have 4 wires. One unshielded stranded wire. One white insulated, one black insulated, and one red insulated, which all have solid copper wires inside per Pipeline's design. I tried messing around with all of them, just holding the wires together and no luck.

Is the volume on your audio device/phone turned up? you normally have to adjust volume on radio and phone when you're connected through AUX cord
Yeah got everything up all the way, I'm going to try a thicker wire. I bought a $3 wire trying to be cheap lol I do have an aftermarket unit I could put in but trying to make the stock unit work
I had bought a cheap wire from walgreens and it work just fine. Some aux cables dont work cause i did cut some that had a fiber and not copper which is annoying. But the walgreens genric brand i got had the copper wires and works great
