Supposedly we're supposed to change these once a year or every 15k miles? Damn, I'm way behind.

Is it different in the SS/SC? I thought I saw that it was in the expanded repair manual I have.

Is it safe to put an air freshener in with it to make the smell come thru the vents? lol

This Mostly every one that drove a car never died or got sick because there cabin air was not sent throught a filter. I got a mildew smell in my car at end of a hot rainy summer and the filter was damp and reeked removed filter and havent had a issue since.

Switched mine the other day, hasn't been changed since it was installed at the factory in 2006. Lets just say there was nothing white/clean about that old filter

Same here all the filter does is create a smell upon start up with the A/C. Having a filter for car A/C is beyond stupid and is just another way to make money and make people think they are safe. Give me a ******* break. As soon as I got my car I took it out and tossed it.

so why would it be good to remove the filter completely? i feel dumb by asking but wouldn't it essentially block little contaminants like dust in the air and stuff from entering ur vehicle?

Your not really gaining anything from removing the filter as it cleans the air as it comes into your car.

christ some of the responses here are ....well wow at best....

it simply filters the air entering your vehicle when you turn on the vents and or ac / defrost

it will not give you any more power removing it

it will not hurt your car any removing it in the same note

but it will filter the air you breath if you have windows up etc in winter with vents on for example

also will keep your dash cleaner than not having one by filtering dust dirt and junk from coming through the vents.

taking it out of a new car and throwing it in the trash because your hardcore and drink protein shakes and eat small babies for mid afternoon snacks is no reason to say the filter is garbage and another ploy to make money by gm....

my car has 53k and i just took mine out and my air blows alot more/louder now but still bout the same ... i dont plan to put one in right now but will eventually its not needed. yes it filters the air but once you hit the button for the a/c doesnt it just reuse the air thats already inside or something like that
