you need to fill it with 100ml or 3.4 oz from a completely drained state.. adding 2.5-3 oz would be typical for an oil plug drain because thats what you remove.

You guys are just adding more "windage" frictional losses into your supercharger. It definately wont stop you from making boost.. but it will overheat your oil and push it past the seals

DONT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE TELLING YOU TO ADD MORE THAN THE AMOUNT I SPECIFIED. This is the exact reason i tell people to leave it alone, cause some people get it in their heads that "if some oil is good, more is better" If you add more, your only hurting yourself.

Let me ask this question, what happens if you put 15 Quarts of oil in your cobalt vs. the 6 that it was designed for?

blows it out the dipstick, i saw it happen when a tech added 7 quarts to mine, but it took 4,000 miles to blow it all out. Im not saying to add more than specified btw, im just saying I dont see it breaking because i added an extra 3 oz.

I've seen PLENTY break because they have extra oil. trust me. These things dont have a dipstick to blow out, what do you think happens when it builds up that much pressure in the gear case? its got nowhere to go.

Why do you think i have been so bold about my statements to not overfill? I tell people to leave it alone because 9 times out of ten they overfill and do more damage than good.

3oz extra in the supercharger is equivaltent to more than 3 Quarts extra in your engine...

Because this change is so easy to do and you are making me overly paranoid (as alot of people do) you have me convinced to change it back to 3oz.

Honestly though, the change is easier than your engine and it doesnt hurt to NOT do it.

Helpful Hints

Just thought I would leave my two cents on this thread.. I just got done doing this and I figured I would let any of you guys who are going to do this in the future in on what helped me out. First of all here is a pic of what my S/C oil looked like after 31000 miles. You probably cant tell in the pic that well but it was a dirty yellowish brown and kind of cloudy so I am glad that I changed it I guess I'm just one of the ones who would rather be safe than sorry.

https://www.cobaltss.net/gallery/fil...4/dscn1179.jpg

The allen wrench size you need is 3/16" and open it very slowly just incase there is any pressure still left inside.. You can pick up a fluid transfer pump at advance auto like I did for about seven bucks or just improvise and use a turkey baster and some small tubing. I had to use a different clear tube than the one my pump came with due to its size. I had this piece laying around the house and at first it would not guide itself into the "tunnel" that leads to where the oil is stored so I cut it at an angle and it went in with a little effort. The key here is to make sure that the tube your using is small and flexible. I think the stuff I used was about 1/4" and you have to feed it a pretty good distance down into the supercharger housing I would say at least 5".

https://www.cobaltss.net/gallery/fil...4/dscn1182.jpg

I got tired of reading about everyone arguing about how much oil to use so I just bought two bottles of the stuff but only ended up putting one of them back into the S/C so I only used about 4 ounces and I havent heard my S/C complain yet.

Hope this helps anybody who is going to give this a try I think it is cheap and worth it in the long run and perhaps might extend the life of the S/C. Below are links to a pic of the label of the Fluid transfer pump that I bought and another pic of all the stuff that you need to do the project.

This forum is FTW...

I can't believe this is being gone over again.

You need to change your supercharger oil as much as you need to replace your camshafts.

Remember guys camshafts are only good for 40k miles, that's why your warranty stops after 36k so the factory doesn't have to replace them.

not possible without decal support mods

That looked clean compared to mine at 40,000 miles

By all means... run it 100,000+ miles. Its good because it is sealed from the contaminants right? I mean, that pic is just bull.... he musta left his SC open to the smog of china for THAT to happen.

yea i was expecting mine to be like charcoal colored and when the pump sucked up that first little bit it was like the color of brand new motor oil I was a little surprised.

No, no, the camshafts last forever - you just have to rotate your pushrods every time you rotate your tires.

Your engine oil also gets dirty after 1K miles. It doesn't mean that it's not working and has lost it's viscosity.
