How To: Chrome SS Badges
Ive been lurking these forums silently for a while, but i figured i can finally contribute a little bit, so i threw this together. I honestly dont know why the SS badges are white, kinda ridiculous. But anyway, it is very easy to turn them into chrome to match the "cobalt" lettering and the rims.
Preperation:
1) Take the badges off your car with goo-gone/wd-40 and fishing line. It helps if it is hot out, but using goo-gone or wd-40 makes it much easier getting the adhesive off than just heating it up with a blow dryer/heat gun.
2) Take your car to the 'hood to get tints.
3) Come home and kill the 2 hour wait while posting a How To:
Supplies:
1) Paint/Finish REMOVER from any hardware store. Terpintine or laquer thinner isnt strong enough.
2) Q-Tips
3) SS Badges
4) Sink near by
5) Lunch
Precautions: stay fairly close to a sink while using the paint remover. if it gets on your skin you will get irritation or even chemical burns if there is a decent amount, i learned the hard way...
Note: Pics taken with blackberry, not the best looking.
Step 1: I had my badges painted red, but it kind of looked tacky so i had to remove the paint real quick.
Step 2: Youre going to take a q-tip and dip it in the paint remover, just to have it wet - not like dripping wet or anything. Then, take the q-tip and rub it on. I would suggest doing half of a S at a time, at least for the first one, so you know how quick itll remove the paint. rub it on lightly, dont drench the badge in it. wait like 20 seconds and youll notice the white paint start to crack/bubble/rub up. take the other end of the q-tip with nothing on it and start rubbing the paint up. press kinda hard, itll scrape the loosened paint up.
Step 3: After u scrape up some of the paint, rinse the badge off with water to get all the loose paint off and get the paint remover off. im not sure if the badges are plastic or not, but this stuff WILL melt plastic, it melted my door bezel when i first used it, not knowing.
then do the rest of the S and it should come out lookin sexy shiny
Step 4: repeat until you get all the badges done
Step 5: Success! No more white badges with chrome trim. solid chrome look, matching the rims and "cobalt" lettering.

Just completed this mod, and it's worth noting that the larger SS badges used on the 08+ are not painted, they are inlays of some sort. Underneath is still chrome though, so it works out. Just a different method to remove the white.
