How to: CX Racing Heat Exchanger

well, i posted this in the how to and its been 3 days and it hasn't been approved yet. so i figure i would help you guys out a lil faster.

This is a little how to. i replaced my cobra h/e with the CX h/e. its pretty simple but its a bitch at the same time.

CX vs. Cobra

heres what you will need:
6- 9/16 bolts w/ nuts and washers (for the H/E)
9/16 wrench and socket wrench
16 guage sheet metal (brackets) (strong but good enough to bend to make it fit better)
dremel or something to cut sheet metal
dex-cool
10mm socket (remove headlights, brackets and body kit)
sharpy marker
drill with 3/8 drill bit
silicon

Let me start from the part where you actually start installing

After your done removing your bumper, headlights and headlight brackets, start taking your cobra h/e off. it will be bolted on by 2 bolts on the bumper. Take those off and disconnect the 2 hoses connected to it. Make sure to put something under the hoses to cat all the coolant. a pan or hefty bag.... something. i dont care

The first thing i did was take the 16 guage sheet metal and cut (2) 2.25x9.25 pieces.
Take this time to plug the nozzle behind the fill cap with silicon or anything else that will plug it. you can sqeeze a little bit in there and take some pliars to pinch off the end if you want.

Next thing to do is drill into the tab sticking out right below the bumper. Use the 3/8 drill bit here

Next you want to ake your 2 sheet metal pieces and hold it up to the hole you just drilled. Use your marker and mark a dot through the hole on your sheet metal. Do this to both sides.
After that is done, take 2 of your bolts and bolt up the 2 sheet metals. now pull up the CX behind the brackets and see how you want to mount this damn thing. Now take your marker and make your marks where you want to drill on the sheet metal.

After you do that, take your CX h/e and hold it back up behind the brackets, use your marker to mark where you want to put holes in your CX h/e.

CX H/E FTW!!!!! hahahaha

Now take those last 4 bolts, washers, and nuts and bolt that H/E up. The cap has a chain coming off of it with a ring at the end. You can bolt this ring in with the brackets if you want. Notice how my left bracket is in front and my right bracket is in the back. i had to do this to make it fit

Next thing is to take your old hoses that were hooked up to your Cobra and cut them or do whatever you got to do to make them fit the CX. All i had to do was take off one of the 90* connectors and hook up the right side. And the left side all i had to do was cut the hose shorter. pretty simple.

After your done doing that, its time to fill her up. Its a really tight fit in here. I had to push on the H/E to get the cap to twist off. I think i put almost a full jug of dex-cool in here. Yea! This CX H/E holds a ton of coolant. The rest of it went in my option B tank. After your done filling her up, put the cap back on.

Now your done! Just put your front bumper back on, followed by your headlight brackets and headlights. Have fun Installing! Oh yea... CobaltSS.Net FTW!!!!

if you guys need the pics drawn for a better representation... just let me know

It looks like if you have the stock body kit that the way you mounted it will hang below the bumper.

if i remember right. if your looking at the car from the pics. the hose on the left came from the right side of the stock h/e. and the hose from the right goes into the dual pass. i just went out and looked. its connected to the middle nipple on the dual pass end plate

looks to be about 9.25-9.5" below the safety bumper

not hard. about 15oz coolant came out. its easy to bleed and have minimal air pockets cause your actually filling the source. plus my option B self bleeds the system of air

Great write up Cole the way I mounted mine the top of the CX H/e is right under the Bumper Support and that is just on level with the bumper, I had to reposition mine several times to get it right. With your body kit though it makes sense to mount it where you did.
