I have a 2007 as well and im thinking of just going right into the oxygen sensor. Any benefit of splicing into the ecu over the oxygen sensor. Would it throw any codes? Really i might just go with a wideband because im looking for a more accurate reading and i plan to build the motor so it will benefit me anyways.

I did my install earlier today of my narrowband air / fuel gauge and I was looking on here for help but no one was here so I unplugged the O2 Sensor and spliced into the purple wire that was behind it (I chose purple bc I looked for a purple and white wire by the ECM and there wasnt one, but I found three purple ones, so I figured I'd just play it safe and splice right by the O2) and I'm pretty sure it worked as a signal wire..... I'm going to drive my car more once it gets dark bc I'm still unsure....The reason I'm not sure is bc at idle the gauge somewhat goes crazy it'll go from rich to lean back to rich....a good sign though is that under throttle it reads rich, and when I let off it reads lean...which is normal operation.....Correct me if I'm wrong.....I have a 2.85" pulley with Stage 2 on my car...and it usually runs really rich..I've actaully had a CEL for running too rich before......p.s. for reference sake I have an 06' SS/SC........

lsj06ecotec i did the same thing as you with the purple/white wire. mine seems to be the same case with it goin crazy at idel. i took mine for a short did and it read rich for me. i only drove it around the parking lot here at work. but i am now gettin a CEL:
P0132: HO2II Circuit High Voltage
i dunno what thats all about. i cleared the code so hopefully it goes away...

That is the GHETTOEST way to get power EVER!
If you do this you deserve consequences. Get an add a circuit or tap a wire correctly.
If your gonna get power that way why don't you just tap a 9v battery for power? You have to run less wire and you wouldn't blow up your cars ECU.

I just wanted to get the gauges hooked up. Had a add a circuit in the shop for a couple months. Then I stopped driving the Cobalt so it never got done. Then the car got totaled so adding a circuit would be pointless.
If you add a circuit to every god dang wire you add-on to the car then THAT is a waste of wire. There are already some circuits in the car already that can handle a couple gauges added on...JUST gauges though. You just have to know how much current you need etc. For my neons I ran a new circuit because I didn't want to risk anything.

you have to tap into the purple and white wire to get a proper signal from the exhaust manifold...and it didnt take very long
its the same wire in all the cobalts
its the same wire in all the cobalts

Ok, this thread is kind of dead and old, but Ive got a couple questions about this install. Ive got the Autometer A/F gauge, its just for decoration in my dash, I know its not accurate. Everything has me confused because there are a million different ways told in this thread. After reading, my plan right now is to tap into the signal wire coming off the 02 before the cat. For power, tapping into the fuse shown on here that doesnt have constant power on the one side and adding an add-on fuse. What amp fuse should be used in the add-a-fuse? The instruction manual for my gauge says to attach the power wire to a 5amp fused spot. The one shown is 20amp I believe. Is there any other means of power that I can use for the gauge where it will not be constantly on? Such as a power wire in the ignition wires in the steering column or something? Any help is awesome, thanks!
