I got a new one from the dealer, and also fixed the two I had, so now I have 3.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question. Before I found this thread, I was messing around with one of my remotes and broke the battery bracket in half.

With that being said, does anyone know if I can buy just the metal bracket somewhere to keep from having to buy a whole new remote? I have been unable to find one online.

Not sure if I can post a half advertisement i guess you would call it that...but my wife's car was to the point I took it to work and she had my truck because she couldn't stand messing with the buttons to get the car open.

Check out KeylessFix.com - The Best GM Remote Fix It was only 10 bucks shipped and works better than new in my opinion! Best upgrade I have ever seen...or repair i should say!

just soldered mine. I'll find out if it is a success or not after work!

edit: worked like a charm

There's an easier way to do this... a few days ago.. need something from the gf's car.. I reached for her keyfob, and it fell about 5feet .. .stopped working..

Opened it up, saw the same thing weak ass connection.. plus the battery makes it worse by pushing it up a little bit

So I put the battery back then on the back cover, I put a little ball of electrical tape.. enough to have a "cushion" so the battery won't move, I used about a 3 - 4 inch piece

Worked no problem... this morning.. dropped the keys again.. picked it up.. worked no problem

I realize this is an old thread, but thank you mrfitz for the detailed instructions. I soldered both of my sons keyless remote units and they work again. I appreciate your sharing this.

I just did this as well and it worked. When I took my remote apart the battery hold down came out separately from the PCB.

Alright, for anyone that still has issues, I found a thread somewhere on how to fix this issue. I can't find it anymore, but I'll write a quick little blurb.

So, if you're like me and soldering didn't work, it's most likely that the carbon pads are done on the rubber.

Materials:
Old TV/stereo/DVD etc remote
X-Acto knife
Small amount of silicone
tooth pick
nimble fingers

1. Pop open the plastic casing.
2. Cut out the very small black film spots on the rubber pad. This is tricky. I popped the rubber pad inside out, and just sliced them off. Try to make a little insert in the rubber pad, to put another carbon pad in.
3. Pop open old remote, remove the rubber padding.
4. Cut a very thin slice of the black carbon pad out. Try to make it as thin as possible
5. Use toothpick to place a small dab of silicone on the new pad, and put it in the insert you made for your car remote.
6. Allow to dry for a few hours, overnight would be best.
7. Re-assemble and you're done!

Just a few hints I guess, would be NOT getting the silicone on the green computer board part, so use small amounts of silicone.

I'd also suggest BEFORE you cut the pads out of your remote, go to your car and make sure the new carbon pads will work. Just push the carbon pad to the green remote where the "unlock" or whatever feature would go. If it works well, I'd suggest continueing.

I'll try to get pics of this, because I fixed only my "unlock" feature, and I still need to fix the other features.

I ordered a new remote from Keyless-remote.com and took out the electronics and put in my old one and it works perfectly. $30. The pads were work on the back side of the buttons. It would be nice if they sold the case with pads separately but this is a good fix for me.

my remote works fine ( pops trunk immediately ) but unlocking car button takes FOREVER. you literally have to press it hard for 10-15 seconds. lock works little quicker @ around 5 seconds. any ideas?

I bought one on ebay, listing said works with cobalt 05-10(mine is an 06). Took it to the dealer to have it programed for my car and they said it couldn't be done, its for an 09. They said a FOB from any GM vehicle as long as it had the same buttons and was from an 06 would work on my car. I got one from a college that he claimed was for an 06 Impala, had it programed no problem and I'm still using it today.

on the back is a part number. as long as that part number matches, it will be able to be programmed to your vehicle.

FInally got around to doing this. The metal tab that has the glob of solder was where it needed to be touched up. I also hit the small two areas around the battery for strength.

Brilliant! Key fob didn't work when I bought the car. Just popped it open, and I can see where one of the solder points has come up. Will be trying this when I get home. Thanks!
