Other/Misc: How To: Fix your unresponsive Keyless Entry Remote
I know this is an old thread, but I have a question. Before I found this thread, I was messing around with one of my remotes and broke the battery bracket in half.
With that being said, does anyone know if I can buy just the metal bracket somewhere to keep from having to buy a whole new remote? I have been unable to find one online.

i bought a whole new fob and the dealer said it wouldnt work...so they went to back and got one of their fobs to program it and it still woldnt work...so whats my problem?? wheres the sensor in the car at and how much is it?
Not sure if I can post a half advertisement i guess you would call it that...but my wife's car was to the point I took it to work and she had my truck because she couldn't stand messing with the buttons to get the car open.

There's an easier way to do this... a few days ago.. need something from the gf's car.. I reached for her keyfob, and it fell about 5feet .. .stopped working..
Opened it up, saw the same thing weak ass connection.. plus the battery makes it worse by pushing it up a little bit
So I put the battery back then on the back cover, I put a little ball of electrical tape.. enough to have a "cushion" so the battery won't move, I used about a 3 - 4 inch piece
Worked no problem... this morning.. dropped the keys again.. picked it up.. worked no problem

Alright, for anyone that still has issues, I found a thread somewhere on how to fix this issue. I can't find it anymore, but I'll write a quick little blurb.
So, if you're like me and soldering didn't work, it's most likely that the carbon pads are done on the rubber.
Materials:
Old TV/stereo/DVD etc remote
X-Acto knife
Small amount of silicone
tooth pick
nimble fingers
1. Pop open the plastic casing.
2. Cut out the very small black film spots on the rubber pad. This is tricky. I popped the rubber pad inside out, and just sliced them off. Try to make a little insert in the rubber pad, to put another carbon pad in.
3. Pop open old remote, remove the rubber padding.
4. Cut a very thin slice of the black carbon pad out. Try to make it as thin as possible
5. Use toothpick to place a small dab of silicone on the new pad, and put it in the insert you made for your car remote.
6. Allow to dry for a few hours, overnight would be best.
7. Re-assemble and you're done!
Just a few hints I guess, would be NOT getting the silicone on the green computer board part, so use small amounts of silicone.
I'd also suggest BEFORE you cut the pads out of your remote, go to your car and make sure the new carbon pads will work. Just push the carbon pad to the green remote where the "unlock" or whatever feature would go. If it works well, I'd suggest continueing.
I'll try to get pics of this, because I fixed only my "unlock" feature, and I still need to fix the other features.

I ordered a new remote from Keyless-remote.com and took out the electronics and put in my old one and it works perfectly. $30. The pads were work on the back side of the buttons. It would be nice if they sold the case with pads separately but this is a good fix for me.

my remote works fine ( pops trunk immediately ) but unlocking car button takes FOREVER. you literally have to press it hard for 10-15 seconds. lock works little quicker @ around 5 seconds. any ideas?
My Question is, what if i dont want to deal with the saldering but im thinking of buying replacements on the internet. the local dealer ship quoted the part costing $75.00 and labor for programing $55.00. so far on the internet i've been seeing prices ranging from $25.00-$50.00. i asked the parts salesman from the dealer what risk am i taking if i buy them on the net. he said, "customers have pruchased them from vendors other than the dealer and many were unable to be programed". a reputable vendor wont give me those problems.... or will they. are there any vendors for remotes that are in good standing? also, let it be noted that the dealership asked for the last 8 numbers of the VIN to quote an exact price and the net sites dont. whats the deal with that?
I had the exact same problem and it eventually got worse. I ordered the pad from keylessfix.com($12 shipped) and it worked like a charm!!
