as for the wing Cobalt30, i say leave it off...the SS looks sexy lowered w/ no wing if you know what i mean...paint the trunk but it doesnt look too bad w/ red IMO

Thanks, CF is for weight not for looks. Anyone who puts CF on for looks should go buy a body kit.

It tripps people out cause even friends who have see the car often don't really see it unless they open the hood, then it's... WOW, this hood is light..

dude...that thing looks good with the CF trunk and the stock spoiler. But you're right...drilling the holes and lining it up will be a pain in the dick. It'd also suck if you changed your mind and wanted to take the spoiler off...major working filling in those holes...

I don't think it looks too bad. Of course I want the CF hood, and Brian that CF hood on your porsche looks sweet with the wording showing CF!

I understand that carbon fiber is "supposed" to be for weight savings but why spend all that money on a carbon fiber hood with this ultra glossy show finish just to sand it all off and paint it? Sounds like a hell of alot more work to turn around and do all that, money too. I would think companies would produce a ready to paint carbon fiber hood or something to that effect.

In my personal opinion though, people buy carbon fiber because of what it is, saving weight is just an added bonus but a small factor in deciding if you want a piece in carbon fiber. For example, how many OEM fiberglass hoods are out there?

The 300-C has one...

The reason they are not sold unprepared is the way in which it's built. It's like a Gel Coat, the top coat is the first and then the hood is built off of that (Upside Ya Know)

So in the case of mine, If it was unfinished, I would have had a shitload of work to get it ready to accept paint. Even metal must be preped and primed so it was no diferent. There are small holes in CF that are normally not visible because CF is so busy, place a coat of primer on it and you will see. The prep that the CF on the MP5T got was simply to fill the holes. If it was only a race car I would have never bothered, but it's my "BABY"

I agree that would look hot. i thought about getting CF hood and trunk and then getting an ss wing with CF center piece on Laser blue LS but it would have cost a lot of money.

So you're telling me that you saved LESS time and money buying a double sided carbon fiber hood with show finish only to prep it and paint over it? That just sounds expensive to me but I have no first hand experience so I can't argue that. But there has gotta be someway that they can prep these hoods for people who want to paint them. Or hell send em pre painted, my car is plastic so its not fading any time soon.

Well, I only Paid $250.00 for it because it was used, so "Yes" I saved a ton of money. Basically, if you are planning to paint the entire thing, then Fiberglass is your option, it's the same basic resin at less cost and almost the same weight.

I stand by my original post that it's easier to get a finished paint job if you start with a finished surface. I was after a "Perfect" showroom paintjob on the hood and all the extra work that went into it was for me, not because it had to be done. The prep and paint on the hood even with the masking of "Mazdaspeed" only cost $150.00 and there were other parts painted too..

Where do you plan on getting the trunk and wing? Is there a package with just the SS spoiler or not?

Don't want to bring up a dead post but better than making a whole new thread, right?

I believe that is the same as the stock one. Atleast i couldnt noticed any bigger and/or smaller gap between it. Aslong as its lined up fine you should be all set man.

How is this even a howto?

theres no mention of bolts, how to unclip anything, where to drill or anything remotely useful.
