Did this last week. Not too hard to do, and easily worth the work! Make sure you have a super sharp blade to cut the headliner with.

I put 2 bolts through the holes up top, and put nuts on the bottom so that the bolts were held solid when I went to put the light in. Makes it easier to put the last 2 nuts in.

I also went all LED from v-leds.com for indoor lighting, and one for the license plate. Nice and even lighting, compared to stock bulbs. The light in the back is great, especially considering that I've got a sedan.

I just did this as well. It was super scary cutting a hole in my headliner but It worked out great and it looks OEM.

Just in case anyone was wondering. Blue with white stripe is a constant 12volt (+) positive lead. Black is Ground 12volt (-) negative lead. Grey is from the door switch also a 12volt (-) negative lead.

Thanks op. I just did this and it's awesome to have some light at night. I used a dome light out of a 03 Saturn same colour as the one you used but an oval instead of a circle.

it's old enough that you can get em from the pick & pull for next to nothing and grab the wire harness while you are at it. Make sure you get the right colour cause they came in tan and grey

FYI, I soldered wires to the dome light socket where I have an LED and ran them down my passenger A pillar to my LED footwells. The footwells now dim with the dome and mirror lights and there is enough resistance that the LED mirror lights now go completely out instead of remaining dim.
Those of you with LED mirror lights will know what I am talking about.

Footwell lights, that's another thing I would love to do. Gonna have a nice project on my hands shortly

That drove me nuts for a while, the LEDs staying on dim, heh. I've had neighbors knock on my door to tell me my lights were on, d'oh!

How did you get your map lights too go out...I put in leds in my mirror than after they dimmed on they glowed..so I put the reguler lights back in, looked sweet with leds, but i didnt like them staying on. Is there something you have to do or a certain type of led too get them to go out?

I have a 2006 cobalt ss.

Need to do this, I've only got the LS light to work with but I don't really need the extra map lights.

My mirror lights stopped staying on dim once I added the dome and footwell LED's on the same circuit. My guess is they just needed a little more resistance because there is always 3volts in the line and that is enough to light up an LED but not an incandescent bulb. It doesnt look like there is enough space to add a resistor in the mirror so you would have to go above the headliner an add it to the wire going to the mirror. If you are going to go to all that trouble I would put in a dome light and add a resitor there if needed instead.

I dont think i ever posted any pics of how mine turned out so here's one. i did this over a year ago so im behind with the pics lol. i ended up recovering the headliner because imo, tan does not go too well with the black and red.

No question this is the best mod i have done to the car...I can see the light! I was lazy though. By mistake i also got a housing that had just the dome light (not the map lights) and it had a magnet clipped on to it...so i though, i wonder if this would go on the other one...sure enough, perfect fit. I cut the liner, put it in the hold, snapped on the bezel and bam! It stuck itself right the the mount with the screw holes. Now i'll admit, might move a tiny bit when pushing on the map lights but i dont think its that big a deal.

So the dome light will cut off and on with the rear view mirror lights? When the door is open.

It's not too hard to do, but making correct measurements is very, very important, especially when cutting the headliner. I've done a couple of these, one on my own car. I learned from mine, was a lot easier on the ones I did after.

Installed an LS dome light today. Make sure you don't cut holes for the tabs, won't be hidden by the Bezel. Need to go back and grab that grey wire, didn't realize it was the switched side.

At least google it first man, takes literally 10 seconds from typing it in to hitting enter.

^^this guy right here

well i finally did this one night over the weekend - took maybe 2 hours, i took my time to take off everything including the a pillars, the only issue i did wrong was cutting the headliner - cut a little too far out of where the housing is, it BARELY is noticeable with the domelight installed grrr... but like i said barely so whatever

also got all buyhids LEDs inside. SO much brighter. i love it now. best mod next to my armrest
