I turned part of my shed into a paintbooth and I must stress....take your time! I found if you don't do light coats, the thing tends to blister quickly. I have to sand down a bit once the paint cures, but no big deal, just could've been avoided if I had slowed down a bit. I think it's going to look sweet when it's done, I can't wait (part of the problem haha)

i'm working on the trim peices right now... just got em off and sanded them and light coat of primer. Waiting to dry to give a quick wet sand and then wipe down and paint orange.

I don't understand... I can paint aircraft for the navy and it looks great, but I can't seem to paint these 4 little plastic peices. Maybe I tried to do it to quick

if you're trying to paint it smooth like a show car here's a couple tips

1.) i wouldn't do the top dash because it'll glare like a **** and suck to drive with, plus it's pretty dangerous if you can't see where you're going.

2.) if you want to paint textured pieces, you either have to sand them perfectly smooth, then use buildable primer and sand that perfectly smooth, then continue with my how-to. OOORRR, you can fill the textured pieces with a layer of bondo, worked in really good, sand that smooth then prime it, sand it, and continue with the how to.

3.) you'll probably want to cover the top dash in microsuede, then paint the lower portion gloss of whatever color.

You really dont need to get the rest off, just a light sanding worked good for me

When I painted mine I scuff sanded with 400 grit and wiped down, make sure you get all the dust from sanding, its best to use a "lint free" type of rag. Then primer, about two coats, when it drys completly sand it with 800 grit or higher untill it is completly smooth, wipe down again until completly clean, any dust or dirt will show, so make sure its completly clean, it can never be to clean. Paint the color you want, between 2 and 4 even coats, let dry completly. If any bumps or blemishes show you can sand with 800 grit or higher again until smooth then repaint. When dry use 4 to 6 even coats of clear coat and let dry completely again. Its best to paint in a shed or garage where where there is no wind blowing dirt and dust.

If that doestn't work you probably didn't get all the dust off it

When I painted mine I used our paint booth in my hanger bay, for our aircraft parts.

I used the dupli-color Mist orange, from auto zone and the dupli-color clear coat. The mist orange is a tad bit darker the the sunburst orange, but I wanted it to be a bit darker. The GM paint should work just fine if you want almost exact color match.
