Drivetrain: HOW TO Replace Shift Linkage Bracket
HOW TO Replace Shift Linkage Bracket
This is how to replace the shift linkage bracket on the transmission.
New Bracket:

LSJ Shift Cable Cable Upgrade Bracket 55563732
Old Bracket:

First take the driver side tire off.

Next locate shift bracket, it is located on the transmission connected with (2) 13mm bolts.

Next pull the shift linkage from the bracket. To do this push/pull plastic clips toward the shifter and lift on the linkage to unlock.

After linkage is removed unbolt bracket from transmission, again (2) 13 mm bolts.
Replace with new shift bracket and bolt down.

Next slide linkage into slots and clip in. No pushing/pulling of the clips needed just firmly press down, you should hear a click.

Once that is complete reinstall tire.
Should take less than 30 minutes depending how stubborn the linkage clips are.

my car was registered in NYC for four years... Definately a little salt in the bracket.. Bought the car in TX thinking I wouldnt have stuff like that. Amazingly the entire underside of the chassis is rust free. Just nooks like those spring loaded sleeves caused them to be stuck. Also everyone said pry on them and everyone that told me that was wrong, those sleeves are spring loaded, just pull em back.
no 1st or 2nd gear
just replaced bracket now i have no 1st and 2nd gear seems to shift fine sitting still but feels like its in 3rd gear when i go to take off and stalls adjusted cables still no 1st and 2nd any help would be greatly appreciated. The trans seems to be stuck in 3rd gear any help are the cables bad or did I mix them up when I pit the bracket on

Plastic slide sleeves
Spent an hour and a half trying to get even one of the cable brackets to release. Slid it back and tried to pry it out of the slot. No go! WTF! I've never seen such a whacked out locking mechanism. GM must have a special fork tool to hold that sleeve back. Exacerbated to say the least.
FOUND THE ISSUE: As you access the shifter bracket through the wheel well, the cable bracket that is closest to the drivers side (the lower cable/3-4 gear) can't be removed until the cable above and behind it (1-2 gear) is released from the bracket first. The slide on the upper cable, due to clearance issues, keeps the lower (3-4 gear) cable from popping out of the bracket.
Do yourselves a favor and unbolt the upper and lower bracket assembly, pull the lower bracket out of the car, so that you can maneuver the upper cable bracket around and release the upper/1-2 gear cable FIRST. Now the lower one will pop out when released.

TX cars are the best. But I am a bit bias for the greatest state in the US.
