Hello everyone, I have an Automatic 2.4 SS can't find the backup switch.

thought I would add my input to this.

You need a 22 mm deep well socket, 24" extension, had a tough time with smaller extensions. And here is the pic i took of it to the left of the fuse panel. Just move the splitloom and coolant hoses (hard lines) out of the way.

This is the best diagram I have found. It all depends which engine model you have the 2.0L is a pain in the butt all around, the switch for it is under the fuse box. took me a half hour just to find it. The way I figure chevy had their hand in designing it so that you had to go to the dealership to get this stuff repaired but screw that!

My horn stopped working at around the same time, is this common or do you think its an entirely different problem?

your horn has nothing to do with your back up lights. Different problem. The switch is a very common part to fail on all GM's. Horn... never heard of that.

maybe. only way to know is get intimate with your car. I spent an hour one day checking everyfuse to figure out an issue I was having with the HVAC. Weird thing is it just took me unplugging the vent blower motor and plugging it back in.

You will find our cars are crap for quality. Saddens me.

i had my clutch replaced a few months back and they forgot to hook up the reverse lights... i cant find the damn harness... does anyone know which loom the reverse switch plug comes out of? Ive felt around as much as i can and i cant find it.

Thanks to everyone above. This was a quick and cheap job. I have a 2.4L Manual and it was behind the drivers side wheel, and happened to be a 3/4 socket. Part cost $46 at the stealership and took me about 10 minutes. Again, thank you guys!

You should had gone to Auto Zone and they have it for $13 dollars special order. I did went to stealership they want it for about $45. All I did to ask them part# then went to Auto Zone. It's the excact same parts and I put in my car it's perfect fit and connector plug in perfect.

Also, I forgot to add. When You go to Auto Zone, they don't have that part listed for Cobalt. I told them to check and see interchange parts. It ring up showing listed Saab and I told them that it's the same as Cobalt. They didn't believe me then I put it in then I showed them. They believe me alright, they were like I am surprised that our system didn't updated. I was laughing and left. LOL!

Did this the other week and was very simple, even for an automotive newbie like myself. The hardest part is making sure you have the right extensions as it's pretty far down.

Also, it ended up fixing my cruise which also stopped working around the same time.

]There are a few of you that do not have any backup lights when putting your car in reverse. I hope this Helps! This is for the MU3 transmission and not the Getrag.

1. Go to your local dealership and buy GM part no. 24459626
2. You will need the following tools: 1/2 ratchet, long 1/2 extension, 22mm deep socket.
3. Shift your car into 4th gear. (please make sure the car is not running!!!)
4. Look down between your fuse box and your motor, you will see a plug with two wires on it. It will be right on top of the transmission. You might have to move some cables out of the way. However you will not have to remove or dissasemble anything!!!
5. Pull the plug off the old switch, then use the socket to remove it.
6. To install the new switch, do this backwards.
