Installing rear sway bar.

This is the process for installing the Progress rear sway bar, also used for the Torque Forward rear bar, not sure about ST. And yes I have both on and you will see how. There are probally easier ways to do this.

This is what you get.

The bolts are very easy to cross thread into the nut flange. BE CAREFUL. They will break off of the flange and are a PITA to get back off.

1. Jack up car. Put on stands.

2. Take off rear wheels.

3. Line up bar.

4. Line up nut flange. You will see a hole under the bottom spring mount.
Use a 3rd jack stand to hold bar inplace.

5. Thread bolts into one side.

6. Thread bolts into other side. You may need to use another jack to force the shock up to line up the holes.

7. Torque to 45 ft/lbs.

8. Wheels back on.

9. Lower car and rock suspension, enjoy.

I got a rear sway bar coming. How hard is it to install? Those 2 lil pieces make it look kinda difficult lol. When I put one on my Zx2 is was just take out the old one and bolt the new one on.

You slide the flange in and it pops into the holes where it needs to go.

That seems easy enough.

I hate to sound stupid, but what does a sway bar do exactly?

Nice write up. It is good for showing how easy it is to just use the holes that are already there and tighten up 4 bolts. This can be installed w/o jacking up and taking the wheels off.

Is the sway bar attached to the body of the car? I dont see a step for that part. If the bar is not attached to the body its not doing anything to stop the car from rolling in the rear.

You need two bushing that have flanges to bolt to the body of the car. Then it may help... The attachment points look flimsy using those flat pieces of steel between the bar and the spring perches.

Not bashing on ya bud, just suggesting some stuff.

its a unibody so bracing the semi-independent rear will in turn brace the rest of the car. you could cut the rear "axle" peice and have an independent rear so basically it makes it more solid and less independent in the rear

Think of our rear axle like a solid rear axle from wheel hub to sheel hub. Pretty much the same concept. Mount the center that is attached to nothing... Like this.

If you mounted the center of the roll bar in two places to the unibody with these

it would then be a fully functional swaybar. The points on the body of course would have to be reinforced but then you would see what that thing could really do.

Right now that sway bar is doing little to nothing but adding weight.

Great right up though by the way.
