Would be i able to simply keep the stock radio and get a line out converter to hook my subwoofers up to it?

Thank for posting this how to guide, it was very easy to take the dash trim apart...

I have an 06 cobalt ss with a single disk dc player...i baught an mp3 radio (stock) off of ebay...so i take it i can't use the wiring harness that goes to my stock radio? Where can i purchase one that will work with the mp3 radio? Has anyone taken their radio to the dealer to reprogram it? If so... how much did they charge? Also, is there any other place i can take the radio to get reprogrammed or does it have to be the dealer?

How do you remove the larger black cord? I am guessing thats the antenna (sorry this is my first aftermarket install)..I tried following the wire down into the fuse box but it seems to just dissapear, and I dont see a way to remove it from the box...

Edit: nevermind...found it said you just pull it out...but didn't work..so grabed pliers to try, and it jus tpulled the black cable out of the antenna leaving the antenna stuck inside the stock radio so...lol

You know that it disconnects right from the stock radio, right?

I didn't read many of the previous posts but be careful when installing an aftermarket radio on the 09's. The metra website is wrong when it comes to the antenna harness. its not the GM-20 or whatever its called. For some reason GM decided to use their chrysler option on some of their models according to the guy at bestbuy when i went in asking why my adapter wouldn't work. just a heads up lol

doesnt matter because GM has each radio coded and programmed to a specific car. you would have to get the dealer to recode it to work in your car.

Does this guide for removing the trim still apply to the 09s or is it different?

edit: I just got in from taking off the trim that is to the left of the radio... holy crap that little piece of plastic was holding on for dear life.

But I did get all of those off without causing and dmg or even pulling the lil metal piece off so I should be golden tomorrow when I take the trim off that is above the glove box, then the outside of the radio itself then I can finally get that thing out of there and check out the back it.

How about putting an 09 radio with the usb jack into an 07? Or is it cheaper to instal a Personal Audio Link?

Does removing the factory radio mess with the Driver Info Center? If so, how do I keep that? And what exactly does it change?

I know that with the pioneer and onstar system you'll lose certain funcition. But with a basic setup you should lose your info bar.

I know this thread is old but I just bought a new stereo to install into my 2007 Cobalt SS. Does anyone know if I absolutely HAVE to buy the $150 wiring harness adapter?
