Tranmission Removal Procedures?

I have to remove my transmission to put in a new clutch and flywheel. I burnt mine up at the track yesterday. I just need the step by step on how to remove the transmission. I looked at it and I can't seem to figure out where to start. Any advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Diagraphms or whatever to assist me in my soon to be work. Oh and if you know what type of RP fluid to put back in there (cause I'm doing a flush while I have it down) would also be much appreciated.

I've helped with one clutch install and that was enough for me. I don't know all the steps because like I said I was just helping. But it's quite a bit of labor.

Ah boy... I am second guessing myself now. Of course, I will be getting paid a couple hundred bucks, so its like a side job, and I told him it might take me a week or more, so I can take it at a pretty leisurely pace. No hurry for me at least, lol.

PM Corvettespirit. Tell him what you are doing and ask him what you will need. He is the one I was helping with the clutch install along with a few other guys. we did it in about 3 hours but it was a pita like no other. Especially since myself and my other buddy had never done it before so we were learning at the same time.

[edit] also tell him I told you to PM him.

is it really required to remove ALL of that extra stuff before the transmission. It pretty much says remove almost everything and then take the transmission apart without actually taking the engine out, but getting it loose.

Yeah, you need to take off alot of stuff first. The bumper, computer, and subframe all have to go. And obviously things like the driveshafts, ect.

The GMPP build book has a full breakdown of the steps with pictures.

the driverside motor mount has to be unbolted under the fuse box, loosen the subframe bolts to allow extra flex, pull drive shafts out and catch the tranny fluid that comes out the side of the tranny, remove shift linkage and any other wires in the way. unbolt the tranny and you will have about a foot and a half of room to work with, thats how i did mine. took about 2 hours. also learning as i did.
