k im having a big issue with the coupler on the turbo out to charge pipe coming off constantly. I tighten it nice and tight and one drive and the tbolt is loose again. nut is not backing off at all. what is going on, so frustrated already. do I have a bad tbolt from zzp or is it expanding from the heat or what? anyone else have this issue?

ive never had an issue with my Tbolts from hahn. and doubt its an issue with the ones zzp uses, they are either tight, or not tight. do you have a bead welded around the tip?

a bead welded around the tip of what?

I just took off the clamp, and the coupler is still where it should be, so it is the clamp loosening itself somehow. but I marked the thread so the nut is not backing off, what the heck else could it be? im gonna try the stock k04 tbolt clamp and see what that does. iv had this issue from day after installing the zfr with that clamp

yes it does. clamp isn't slipping it stays in place. its just I tighten it to the point of barely being able to tighten anymore, and I go somewhere and when I get back home I check and the clamp is all loose, like I have to sit and tighten for awhile before it gets as tight as I had it. im so confused.

i put on the stock clamp and went for ride, came back and it was just as tight as i had it. so i think that was my issue. idk why the other one didn't stay tight, i checked it out, seemed fine. never had an issue like that before. so strange. now i hope my hp tuners comes tomorrow so i can get on my term tune.

It's a brand new clamp from zzp. Idk maybe it wasn't right enough. The stock one with the spring sure holds nice. I'll just keep that one one there. One thing though, I did notice later that if I don't have anyone pushing the coupler down while I tighten, the coupler backs out from under the clamp as it gets tighter. Man I hate rear engine turbo set ups , so much easier to see and do things when turbo is in front

Its actually surprisingly easy, if you have all the correct parts. Just stubborn bolts to deal with.

What did you have to rebuild on the TBSS? (Gf is looking at potentially getting one)

both my turbo swaps ive done were simple, even the bolts and mine had 86k on it when i swapped. on the ground at that.

but the TBSS's are known for spun bearings due to a shitty oil pickup design, the tube sits at the front of the oil pan so when you put a 400hp in a 4700lb truck, it tends to send the oil to the back lol. hence the spun bearing due to oil starvation. if you look into one, find one that is stock if possible and ask how many quarts of oil have been used for oil changes, if its stock and they run 7qts instead of the factory 6qts, they can usually get away from the issue without the relocated pickup tube that i bought. if its modded......well its hit or miss. mine was a small cam, bolt ons, ported intake mani, built trans, and converter soo yea lol. i had to get the block bored 20 over and decked it .020. so CR went up a little, probably around 11:1 and its a 370 now. its a great truck and i love the thing. but they are known for the spun bearing, weak trans, and LS2 lifters are known to get sticky, which isnt a big deal, you can buy LS7 lifters for about 100 and some change i think, head gaskets and swap them yourself in a few hours. any questions hit me up bud.

I'm still waiting for this turbo , shop is backed up it will be 2 weeks tomorrow with no car

OP or anyone who did install , any hiccups along the way when you installed? Unexpected parts needed? Unused lines not needed anymore or clearance or modification issues?

I'm dying I want my car Monday they will start again but I don't want to rub into something unexpected that I don't know about

Wow. You've been waiting two weeks. It takes like 8 hours to get it all done. I'd be mad.

Your telling me man and its my DD luckily I have people around me to assist me with doing ****

Thats why I'm hoping there's nothing else that pops up I knew I'd need a new upper charge pipe so I got that ASAP
I'm just afraid the car won't start when there done, when I installed my Trifecta AF40 automatic tune , there was a glitch in the prototype software I used and I couldn't get the car on, it was fixed the next day but I'm not driving a Toyota corolla here

you took it to a shop to install the zfr??? i could swap it on a set of jack stands in under 8hrs.........no issues though. when i did mine, i had to grind down the one heat shield tab on the manifold in order for the turbo to sit flat on the it. but zzp fixed that issue since i think.
